get Candy to Florida. She growls and carries on every time we put her in the carry case. You would think she is rabid. They are never going to let me take her on the plane if she behaves like that. I am super worried.
Anyone know a real public place that allows dogs that I could put her in the case and carry her around for an hour or so. The pet store is the only place I can think of but I really want a more airport like space where I can set her on a bench, lots of people are walking around, etc.

I've seen people at the mall with their carry case dogs... Although the mall may freak her out...it seems to be more socially acceptable to bring pups places as long as theyre in a carry bag..

it's outdoors but how about Babylon train station? You can plop down on a bench outside the ticket office with her in her carry on and see how she does.

Maybe you could get a safe, mild sedative from the vet?

Take a trip on the lirr. If she makes it through a trip then she'll probably be fine. And maybe take a late am rush hour so there are people but its not standing room only

I crate my dog and initially he did not like it. Our trainer had us 'add value to the crate' by putting food in it and letting him get it. We use to play crate games with treats (really high values ones like pea sized pieces of chicken and steak) and now he loves the crate. I give him a kong filled with good treats that he only gets when I put him in the crate. He has had some issues with seperation anxiety and whining when I left him and this has helped. The same training can be used for the carrier. Find something that Candy really loves and only give it to her in the carrier. It takes a bit of work but it will be worth it when she puts herself in there looking for a reward!

Yup, I was going to suggest this too. My sister's vet gave her something for her dog when they drive from NC to NY and back.

Yup, I was going to suggest this too. My sister's vet gave her something for her dog when they drive from NC to NY and back.
I used to have to give this to my dog when he around 6 months old whenever we would drive to and from Ohio. He used to leap into my lap when I was driving! Very unsafe. Luckily, I don't need to give him sedatives anymore, but they did work like a charm.
