How are you splitting the holidays?

We are having issues deciding how to split the holidays--families live too far to split the actual day. What is everyone else doing?

Re: How are you splitting the holidays?

I am spending both Thanksgiving and Christmas with my In-Laws.

I don't want to spend them with my family because of my father. I feel bad for my mom though. So I think we might go see them during the day on Thanksgiving and after dinner on Christmas Eve for dessert at my moms and then go to midnight mass afterwards.

Re: How are you splitting the holidays?

that is the only thing my and DH argue about.

I'm going to host thanksgiving beginning next year (inviting just his parents, my parents and my brother)

This year we had Thanksgiving this past weekend with his family and mine on Thanksgiving day.

Christmas day - his family (my family has agreed to get together shortly after for a formal holiday dinner)

Easter - my family (his family doesn't celebrate Easter - although now they are considering it since mine does )

once i have some kiddies - this is changing I'm tired of driving 3 hours round trip to see his family and 3 hours round trip the next day to see mine! It's exhausting!!

Re: How are you splitting the holidays?

We alternate T/giving every year - this year we're at my dad's...next year we're at the IL's.

Christmas Eve we spend the evening with my IL's - the morning with my mother (it's also my b/day so sometimes we go into Manhattan for the day...but we're always at the IL's for dinner).

Christmas day, we're at DH's grandmother's house for the afternoon.

The day after Christmas, is Christmas with my dad and stepmom...my sister, BIL and niece.

It works out well for us...

Re: How are you splitting the holidays?

We weren't going to do Thanksgiving (usually we host it and both families come to our house).

But then decided to make a small turkey for just Phil and I. Then we decided to invite his parents. So it will be small, which I want.

Christmas we are hosting. But only Phil's family is coming.

Re: How are you splitting the holidays?

For Thanksgiving...

We're having dinner at my parent's house and then going to DH's sister for dessert. My parents live in Commack and his sister lives in Huntington so it's not far to travel. Thank GOD

DON'T ask about CHRISTMAS

Re: How are you splitting the holidays?

We live in the same town as my parents and in-laws, so we usually go to my house first and then to DH's grandmas, and then to his parents. DH can't wait until we have kids, because even though we all live close by, I refuse to treck to three different houses, they can all come to us.

we're doing thanksgiving at dh's uncle's house w/his parents and some other assorted folks.

christmas eve will be at my sister's, christmas day at my brother's and the day after christmas w/il's.

it was such a pain to figure this out i actually want to move across the country so we don't have to deal with it.

Re: How are you splitting the holidays?

Well here's my situation -
Thanksgiving is also my Birthday!
DH is working until 3 or 4.
Then we are going to my parents house in West Islip and then going to DH's brother house for desserts (Shirley).
So we will be all over!!

Re: How are you splitting the holidays?

Thanksgiving at my parents' house with my parents, my brother, my inlaws, my parents' best friends, their kids.

Christmas Eve: either it will be at my parents' best friends' house and my inlaws will come too (my MIL is expressing the fact that Xmas Eve dinner is too much work so she is giving the impression that she wouldn't object to letting someone else do it) OR if MIL wants to do it, I will spend part of the evening with them and the other part with my parents' friends

Christmas Day: My parents' house for dinner. In-laws will be there.
