So, My landlord is selling the house.. it's been on the market for the last 6-7 months with NO bites.. The wife is DESPARATE to get out of the house.. we are in Lynbrook but Valley Stream South school district... and her 11 year old daughter's friends all go to the Lynbrook school system... the husband is content to stay here, but she's not.. and there was this DIRTY couple that came to look at the house the other day and while they were in my apartment going thru my closets and cabinets, I heard them saying that my living room would be a great dining room and all the changes they would make to my apartment (whcih sounds like to me, they would kick us out).. and tonight she was showing the house to someone else at 7, so I left bc I didn't want to deal with my dogs barking and really am uncomfortable with people looking thru my things.. and I come home and they are still here.. and GUESS WHAT.... it's the SAME dirty couple...
So now I am thinking they will probably make a bid on the house and Larry and I are going to end up homeless.. we have a couple of apartments lined up that we could have but one is in a basement and the other is too much money a month.. SO... I don't know what's going to happen...
So, would you be worried?

It could go either way. They could make a lowball bid and it could get rejected, or they could accept if the wife is really on edge ready to move. It might not be the worst thing in the world to make sure you have something lined up.
Remember the man may be the head of the family, but the woman is the neck and she tells the head which way to turn! Good luck!

When your landlord first told you he was putting the house on the market did you guys have an agreement as to what would happen if they sold the house? I am checking my real estate book for you. I kind of remember there being a clause in there for people who were in a lease. When is your lease up?

I Found it!!!! Just to let you know, when a property is sold a lease does not terminate. If a landlord sells a property, the new owners take the propterty to the rights of the tenant. The lease SURVIVES the sale and continues as it was until the lease has ended!
The only ways they can legally kick you out is if for some reason your apartment does not pass code, if anyone in your household is mentally incapable of living on their own or if they are over 62 and have been accepted into another facility better fit for their needs.
I hope that helps!

I would be a little bit worried. I dont think that it hurts to have something lined up for you just in case. Dont forget it does take awhile to close also so you would still have time to look and find something else

BAsed on the above info ask him to write you a new lease, you did him a favor by staying with him maybe you can do you a favor now.

I agree with some of the girls. It wouldn't hurt to start looking for a new apartment. Cause after your lease is up,it's on a month to month basis, and they legally can give you a 30 day notice to leave. It would be different of you had children, because then it can take 60-90 days for them to get you out. I've been in this situation with my older son's father, it realy stinks, but just cover your a$$, for your own sake.
