How can I get my parents to understand....

How can I get my parents to understand....

That I'm married!?! And that that means they can't change their minds about plans every 5 minutes because its not just me anymore that their inability to make a decision is impacting?
I have been trying to pin my parents down about plans for father's day for the past week and a half. Finally on Tuesday they said 'lets just do something on Monday night since brother and sil will be away at a wedding, and other brother is going to be at a conference until sunday evening' so I told DH to go ahead and make whatever plans his family wanted to do for FIL.
Well, now my dad has changed his mind, and he 'thinks' he might want us to come have a bbq at their house, maybe around lunch time - I'm trying to be extra understanding because it IS father's day after all and last week his mother passed away and he's taking it very hard. But this is a constant pattern.
UGH...thanks for listening!

I totally hear you on this one.

It's very difficult to coordinate so many different schedules. I have two sisters and a brother that I am also trying to get in sync with for events and they all have completely different schedules. However, I do feel my in-laws make it more challenging for my husband and I because they are obsessed with the idea of better time slots. (ie. dinner is better than brunch) So add that to the equation and it's a complete mess.

I'm hoping after a couple more years of marriage we can formulate a plan with some sort of consistency every year.

I know it's easier said than done, but hubby and I are good at just telling them when we are available. Hubby's side is actually easier than mine. My folks can be the challenge. But, I usually just take the initiative to make the plans. As for my brothers and sister - we just work around each other and TRY to be courteous. If we can't all be in the same place at the same time, so be it.

This Sunday we are lucky - my parents decided not to come to NY. That leaves only 1 dad to make happy. Much easier!
