How did you decide what to register for?

Hello to all the Mrs!

I was wondering how you decided what to register forand how many things to put on youur registry?

I know the items I need and double checked the lists they give you. I'm just concerned that some items may be too expensive (ie. $400 pot set, $500 knife block, $300 duvet...) A lot of people said to put it on the registry because people do buy them but they seem so extravagant to me. I already have fine china on there so I guess I just assumed that would be my expensive item.

Am I nuts? What do you guys or did your guests seem to spend on you for your showers? Did anyone have way to long a list?

TIA!

PUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING ON THERE REGUARDLESS OF THE PRICE...THAT'S WHAT WE DID. IF NOBODY BUYS IT THEN THE STORE USUALLY OFFERS YOU A DEAL ON THE STUFF YOU DIDNT GET SO YOU CAN GET IT FOR CHEAPER IF YOU REALLY WANTED IT!!

I got a lot of the 'expensive stuff' from my registry. My family was very generous and some people chipped in for one big gift (co-workers, friends, etc.)

Re: How did you decide what to register for?

A good idea with probelms like this..is to separate things where you can. Also, have a few regestries. 2-3 seems to be average.

We did Macy's, Pottery Barn and Target.
This way, all price-ranges and ideas can be fulfilled! picked out anything we liked...like a shopping spree and got most of it to be honest!

The Pots and Pan situation: We also wnated a 10 peice set from Macy's. They also sold the pots individually, but this costs more money. That doesn't matter ...If you don't have someone who you knwo will spend $400-$500 on your gift, and they will probably say they want to get you pots anyway..then regester for the individual. YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO GET IT THIS WAY
We were lucky enough that MIL wanted to get us one big gift off the list, otherwise we would have regestered for them individully.

Good luck! And have fun!

Re: How did you decide what to register for?

put what you need on your registry...if they buy it they buy it..if they dont they dont...dont sell yourself short though..youd be surprised what people buy. Plus...most stores give you a year to buy whatever is left on your registery for 10% off..so its worth just putting it on there.
