How did you know you were ready?

How did you know when you were ready to try and have a baby?
DH says he wants to wait 3 years I say 2 but, now that I am married I feel the itch already. I know I would like to get a house first.

DH and I are 33 we kind of knew that when we would get married we would start right away we didn't want to wait any longer. I am ready. Financially I am not too sure about but I am not sure we will ever really be where we want to so we are going for it.

We are not ready. Well I guess we could be if we wanted to be but we have only been together 2 years total and we want time to enjoy our lives, get to know eachother better, travel, save money, etc!

Re: How did you know you were ready?

I think there are serveral factors that go into being ready. I want to wait a year, DH wants one now ! Age is the main player for us as well, he is 38 I am 32 , so right now we are waiting it out . I get the itch every now and then , but it passes quickly . I think if we were in our 20's we would wait and enjoy a few years , travel ect...

Re: How did you know you were ready?

Both of us started new jobs before the wedding and moved in right before too. We just want to enjoy some time together as much as we both want a baby now. We want to build savings and buy a home so we can spoil our baby lol. We really want to make sure we are able to provide the best life for our family. It takes patience but I keep telling myself that waiting two years I'll be a little older and have a little nest egg building and I be able to enjoy our lives together.

we are older (30) and I feel like we should be ready- but we're not. I do feel like I would love to have a baby but we are not there right now- we dont have the money and we still need time to figure out child care. Plus, I love being able to go where I want to go and we want to enjoy marriage- so for us, we are thinking like 2 years

Might sound stupid but I think when the time is right you just know. I think its more of a situation where you get the itch, you are thinking about it alot and you don't have any reasons why not to have a baby now.

For me right now, I am not ready. I ADORE kids and can't wait until the day that we are ready. But now when I think about it which of course I will think about often, theres always something that will come to mind and then make me think that we should wait. All the other things that are coming to my mind that tell me I am not ready are all things that are important at this very moment or need to be taken care of. Things we want to do, where we want to be in our lives when it happens and that sort of stuff. Right now us enjoying our newlywed life is taking priority, us fixing financial things is taking priority.

for us it's definitely age. DH is 38, will be 39 in March, and really wants at least one child by the time he's 40. we were going to wait until we had a house, but we've been TTC for 3 months now. luckily, we are in contract for a house, so we will have a house whenever we do get pregnant.

we always say we wish we would have met each other a few years earlier in life, so we could have a few more years for just the two of us, but the more we talked about it, we both really want a baby sooner rather than later.

Re: How did you know you were ready?

I have been thinking about this so much lately... and every few months or so, the topic comes up between us. At this moment in time, we're not ready, but we both agree that we don't want to wait too long, b/c as morbid as it may sound, we want our parents to have as much time as possible with our kids! At the same time, we would like to have a house first (we've only been in our condo for a year) and DH works in the investment bank industry so who knows if his job is certain these days. So many factors to think about! But definitely... whenever I'm around friends or family that have infants or toddlers, I feel like I want one now!

I don't think i feel ready but then I think I am 30 and Dh is 32 and I want my parents to be around so I start getting nervous.

DH wants to try right after the wedding. He says if it rains a lot on the honeymoon, you never know. I want to wait a few years to get more settled. We are in our early twenties, so I don't feel too rushed. If it happend before we would be happy.

we are trying right now. at first, i was little worried due to my job situation & we don't have a house yet. but we are older & don't have too much time to waste. i don't think there is ever going to be perfect time.
Babies don't take up much room. I am hoping by the time he/she finally come along we will house. if not... we will just have to make the best of it. I am not giving up my dream for a job hopefully, things will work out. we have a decent emergency fund if i lose my job

Re: How did you know you were ready?

For us we got surprised, but only 1 year earlier. We are young, but we already have our home, have good jobs, and really the only thing that was holding us back was me finishing school. I will still graduate on time, just things will be a bit more hectic for about 6 months, but thats ok. We're ready... I think you need to be emotionally ready, not just financially ready, because will you ever feel financially ready? anything can happen.

Before the wedding, we were in total agreement to wait 2-3 years. But somewhere around October (my 28th birthday) it hit me. So we talked about it, and we're going to start trying next fall. We have a house and our jobs are as secure as anything can be in this economy, but we want a little more time to just be together. Its something you just know.

Re: How did you know you were ready?

i'm totally scared outta my mind to have a baby. the whole birthing process gives me nightmares

but I WANT A BABY so bad. the itch came on last year and the more kids i see the more i want to have one with DH. the same with DH, at first he was hesitant to plan when we'd have a kid, but now he equates buying a home with having a baby. we cant do just one, it has to be both

we're planning on a 2013 pregnancy

Re: How did you know you were ready?

i know this sounds corny, but we were always ready. i guess i am going to sound like my mother now, but i really believe in 'whatever and whenever God brings.' granted, we both finished our education and have good jobs when we got married, so we did not have to worry about that. however, things like stressing that you don't have a house yet or the Mercedes in the driveway is silly. as long as you can support a baby (provide a safe home, food and medical care) then why not. i know it probably sounds like i am over simplifying it, but i feel like if you wait until everything is just perfect, you'll never have a baby, KWIM? Also, it can take a LONG time to get pregnant. many women have difficulty getting pregnant or have fertility issues. i know many people that waited the three years and then had enormous difficulty. overall, you have to do what is best for you, but at the same time, i don't think you have to put an exact time frame on it.
