How do you dress for work?

How do you dress for work?

my boss complimented me today saying i always dress well but seemed surprised by it which I understand because we work in a VERY corporate environment and everyone is older so they dress the part but when iw as tmeping I noticed that even at some law offices, people would take dress down Fridays to heart and come in in flip flops and nice tee shirt type blouses.

When I was student teaching (and when i go back) I will dress accordingly-stil put together but more casual than pearls and high heels because you're on your feet all day and chasing after little guys. My second graders LOVED hugging me...with dirty hands lol. So my clothes got well loved after awhile. But I'd never wear jeans unless I was working in the art department because I don't feel ejans really give an 'authority' vibe off. JMO for me personally.

Do you ladies think that 'dressing the part' in a work environment helps or hurts? My company released an article on this so i was just curious. I do take into account that people working in corporate NYC might have a diff dress code than a more casual office somewhere else.

I personally prefer working in an environment that doesn't allow polo shirts and nice tees or flip flops(talking about corporate not school) because I think it forces people to take care in grooming and just presents mroe nicely.

I work alone, so I *could* come in my PJs for all I care..

I wear casual suits b/c I just LIKE wearing nice clothes... hah, when am I ever going to wear them?

I was teased when I landed my producing job way back in the day... b/c I went from running the mail room (jeans, t shirt environment) to skirts, nice shirts etc etc... Hey! I'm a big girl now, get off my back!

Sounds like an interesting article... I'd like to see it.

i think its good to 'dress the part' and i prefer to be a littke more dressed up than down. that said, i'm very happy that we do not have to dress tooooo corporate at my office - i'd hate to HAVE to wear a suit every single day.

we dress corporate casual - never jeans or sneakers. mostly slacks and a buttown down shirt or sweater etc. i used to wear skirts a lot but now i just stick to slacks.

My dad always told me that you should dress for the job you want. We can wear pretty much anything at work from jeans and flip flops to skirts and suits. I choose the latter - I'm a supervisor so I can't bring myself to wear jeans.

There is NO dress code at my job, people wear pajama pants, flip flops etc.

I wear 'business casual' Monday through Thursday - slacks, button down shirts, sweaters, skirts, casual dresses etc.

On Fridays I wear nice jeans, I try not to wear sneakers but sometimes I wear nice black ones, usually I will wear boots/heels with them and a nice shirt.

I only wear T shirts when the Rangers are playing at night mostly to annoy some of my male coworkers with my Rangers shirts.

I agree with dressing for the job you WANT and upper management is rarely dressed down - i try to follow their lead.

Jeans, t-shirt and work boots, hair tied back, no makke-up. But it is amazing, I still 'groom'

I work in a corporate environment, and I dress the part. Nice trousers and a tailored blouse or sweater set, heels or dressy flats. Suits only when I have meetings. I like scarves, so I tie them in various ways to accentuate an outfit.

We do have casual Fridays, but have a strict dress policy. No jeans, no flip flops, no sneakers, no shorts, no t-shirts. Men are to wear collared shirts, like polo shirts or short sleeved dress shirts.
We go completely corporate casual for the summer months.
I do wear cropped pants, but again with a nice blouse or a dressy t-shirt and a jacket. Linen pants with collared t-shirts. Dresses.

There are some here who dress like hoochie mamas during the summer, using the weather as an excuse. It is still a corporate environment, and you never know when you will be called into a meeting. I keep a neutral jacket here just for that purpose. Most of the men do the same thing, including a tie.

It is my opinion that one dresses for success and for the work environment. Look to the executive staff to see how they dress and follow the lead.

I work in a school, and I typically wear dress pants and a nice tee shirt. I'm in CA obviously so weather plays a big part!

The teachers here dress VERY casually and I actually usually feel overdressed! The teachers mostly wear jeans, shorts, flip flops, etc.

I try to stick to dress pants, nice short-sleeved shirt, cute flats.

On Fridays I'll wear trouser jeans instead of dress pants.

Re: How do you dress for work?

I have a studio in my home ( a whole floor dedicated to it) and I have a few girls who work for me. Basically I let them wear what they would like and are comfortable in since we don't do client appointments in the studio and our enviroment is pretty casual.
For client meetings though, I like to dress up. There is something to be said about how your appearance affects overall presentation and perception.

edited to add: I'm in jeans, sneakers and a fuzzy sweater today!

when I am home....slob hog is my name.
At work, we are all in 'corporate' or 'business' dress except for fridays. Friday is casual fridays, we still have to be presentable but I wear jeans, nice sandals or wedges and a nice sweater. I think it can go either way.

My office isnt a rinky dink office either-we were just listed in entrepeneur magazine for being int he Hot 100 business across the US, so I think the rules work for this business-as Im sure they dont with others. I think it depends on what people consider 'casual'

Same here. I am NOT a supervisor (thank God) but my mom always told me 'dress for the job you want' and to look at how my supervisors dress. My immediate supervisor is VERY casual but she is in 1x a week if that. Eveyone else is 3 piece suits or dressy outfits, pearls, etc. Very elegant.

I sit at the front desk and represent the company as a result because I am the first person they see and since we deal with some high profile clients so I can't dress like a slob.

I try to dress nicely and neatly even on the weekends-nice jeans and a blouse ONLY because I never know who I am going to meet. I plan to teach for awhile and then go for an ssistant principal position which I feel merits a certain image.

I once ran into a principal for one of the local elementary schools in NJ on line at AMazing Savings lol. I was soo glad to be wearing neat clothes. Not hat it was an interview or anything but first impressions and all. I met an assistant pincipal while getting my naisl done another time...Never know who you will meet so I TRY...BUT I do have plenty of my own WHat Not to Wear moments

Business casual, but suits when I have meetings (usually only once/week).
The one thing I'm grateful for is that my boss lets me wear sneakers whenever I'm at the office (no meetings) because eventhough I love the way shoes look, they contribute to my migraines when my feet hurt.

Thats true-as far as what type of work you're doing. I temped for awhile at an advertisizn company and worked with alot of young trendy professionals and the vibe was defianlty more 'NY casual' (nice jeans, boots, heels and a nice sweater or blouse) as opposed to corporate. My first day i wore my 'safe' suit and felt SOOOOOOOOOOOOO out of place.

This office though is full of antiques and persian rugs..just a diff kind of atmosphere so if I showed up in jeans they'd think i lost my mind.

I wear business dressy to business casual. Suits, skirts, dress pants, blouses sweaters. Always shoes never flip flops and never jeans. In the summer everyone in the office tends to be a bit more casual I wear printed skirts or capris with sandals but still look dressy and professional.

Same for me.

Re: How do you dress for work?

Business casual, it's the dress code here. Not a big office, but it's a medium sized company and us office workers have to look nice. On Casual Fridays I will wear flip-flops but I've seen the supervisors in halter tops, I'd never go that far.

When I was student teaching it was pretty much the same. Tho I never wore jeans on Fridays either, I'd wear my long denim skirt which is a little more dressed down than my usual attire.
