I don't want to brag, but pretty darn good.

I have the knack for tasting somethign and being able to pick apart the flavors and re create it.

I'm really good at just having a bunch of random ingredients and throwing them together to make somethign great (great for when we didn't have a lot of money tto spend on groceries)

It's funny, but I have a hard time following recipes because I always have to 'tweak' or change it!

I'malso a perfectionist so hence the tweaking

To be perfectly honest, I probably made about 3 meals before DH and I got married b/c I lived at home and my mommy is a fabulous cook.

But ever since the wedding - I'm a crazy cooking machine! I try to make a fun dinner every night and so far so good. DH loves the stuff I make for him....a lot of it is super spicy, meaty and greasy - just how he likes it. I've had several dinner parties at our place since the wedding and everyone else seems to like it too.

It's funny, but after eating a ton of authentic and spicy mexican food in cabo - DH is insisting that I cook only mexican food until I start residency in June and he goes hungry Rachael Ray doesn't make too many mexican dishes.....gotta get myself a cookbook I guess.

I'm getting hungry now......

Re: how do you rate your cooking skills?

definitely consider myself a pretty decent cook. i've been making dishes since i was about 15 or so--cause my mom just really made a big deal about being a 'good wife' and cooking.

i love making a new dish and it coming out great and feeling proud i achieved that.

Uhhh, I'm ok. It really is a chore for me though. I never know what I'm doing. I make the same few things over and over again. You'd think I would've gotten some cooking genes since: my bro is a Chef in NYC, my cousin is a cake maker to the rich and famous, my auntie used to own a few restaurants and my mom and other auntie can all cook and bake their asses off!! Nope. I guess I got the crime fighting gene instead.

Re: how do you rate your cooking skills?

It's my hobby! I love it.... My mom is not a very good cook... as I became a teen, she lost even more interest and I revolted... I taught myself how to cook. I didn't want basic stuff, since all mom ever cooked was broiled meat or fish with a sad boiled veggie. I went gourmet by age 14 My oldest gourmet mag cookbooks are from the 80's so 22 years later, I'm getting pretty good!

I have lots of ethnic friends.... so I learned proper iranian and afghan cooking straight from their moms and aunts. I taught myself indian cooking with a bit of help from my indian friends, and then began teaching myself ethiopean cooking techniques.

of course I also do the standard french, italian, greek fare... but that isn't too hard to pick up... I also have ventured out on my own and have made up a lot of different dishes, usually with a fusion flare....

so yeah, I go to fairway supermaret every week, and occassionally go to route 106/107 for indian supplies... and go to queens for middle eastern supplies.

I voted myself as 'food TV' worthy....

Re: how do you rate your cooking skills?

If I'm using a cookbook I'm pretty good. If not, I never know how long to cook stuff...I need to know how many minutes or it comes out dry and overcooked. Never burned anything though.

No cooking talent whatsoever. I only make really simple, basic things that require as little time & effort as possible. I'd like to someday get more into it though.

I'm pretty good if i follow a receipe. Withou a receipe the meal is pretty questionable!
