I plan on staying home with my kids as long as needed - probably at least until Junior High, and then maybe go back part time.

My husband and I are saving money now and for the next few years so that I can stay home. We are also hoping to move or be transferred to a cheaper area (ie not NY)

Ideally I'd just like to stay home, but feminism ruined that for most of us.

a woman after my own <3

Sometimes I really do think its true though.

If I HAVE to work in order for society to respect me, then can I at least have a slave to do my laundry?

I stay home completely until we are done having children and they are all in school. Right now i have a 2 year old and am preggo with number 2 so it iwll be a few more years before i get back to work since we want to have a third as well.

In a perfect world (which it isnt so we shall see)

I work the NYC Dept of ed. and one of the great benefits is that I have the right to take child care leave and walk right back into my position any time up until my child enters kindergarden (unpaid of course).

same here.. but who knows how the benefits will roll out by the time we have kids!

I couldn't be a STAH mom. There is just no way we could live where we are and have a family on one salary! Everything is so expensive and since most households are dual income it will always be that much harder. I will stay out for as long as possible. Which I believe is three months using disability and vacation time. They will hold your position for 3 months so that is probably when I will go back. Most of my co-workers come back part time after having children and I don't know if that will be feasible.

we cant afford for me to stay home after kids, so I will come back as soon as the disability runs out. Makes me sad though, my mom stayed home with us- she worked per diem as a nurse- and I loved that she was always there

ideally i would like to stay home indefinately.

but being more realistic...ill be working full or part time (something like that) after leave/vacation time is up.

I would love to have a baby around may and then stay out the rest of the school year and have the summer. Then return that sept. so my ans. is 4 months.

Fortunately, I work at home part of the time, so I'll likely continue that, and just cut back on things. It would be more important for me to stay home with my child than to have lots of expensive stuff. If I did go back, I'd like it to be part time, and my parents would watch my child/children b/c they're retired. I used to volunteer in a day care center when I was younger, and I do feel bad that people are pretty much forced to put their kids in day care b/c just getting by in life is so expensive...

But thats a LONG way off. Right now, cats are a lot for me to handle.

i work at DH's business so ideally I would like to stay home with my children until they are in school and during that time I would work as much as I could from home.

Ideally i would love to be a SAHM. I will have to see when the time comes if we can afford to do it. But , if not , i make my own hours so i will probably stay at home for a few months and then hopefully work from home 2-3 days a week .

As of right now we are planning for me to stay home until my babies go to school. I am still going to try and do something for myself...like go to school part time, work 10 hours a week, volunteer or become obsessed with the gym, just so that I get out. I would leave my child with family and close friends and of course daddy!

being in the situation now... its really HARD! and it really *****!!! i always dreamed of being a stay at home mom. its what i always wanted and thought would be no problem. Well fast forward to now.. ITS IMPOSSIBLE! im having a really hard time dealing with it, i work an hour from home and i work all night long so i wil miss bedtime and waking up when he/she needs me. its dreadfull. DH feels guitly that i can not do as i had always dream. but i know reality and i know its just impossible for us to own our own home and have a child with out both of us work. So i will be able to take 3 months (unpaid of course) and then have to go right back. Im hoping we can work it out so that while the baby is still very young i might be able to work part time instead of full time. but looks as if right now it wont be happening.

Just remember what you want to happen and what will actually happen is 2 different things and be prepared.. i wasnt so it hit me like a lead balloon when i realized i wouldnt be able to be a sahm

sorry for the sob story its a touchy subject with me still
