How many came to the reception but skipped the ceremony?

I was just reading some old topics (from 2005) and I came accross this discussion. And it got me thinking- there were A LOT of people who skipped the ceremony. It was a Saturday afternoon wedding in the summer, but it was raining that day, so it's not like they could have spent the day at the beach. To me, the ceremony is really the most important part. If they came to just the reception it feels like they didn't really care about our wedding, just the party.

This is why I had my wedding and reception at the same place. I knew that if I had a church wedding people wouldnt feel like they didnt have to attend the ceremony or could op-out of it and just attend the reception. Thats rude to me b/c the cermony is the special & most important part its the joining of 2 people who love eachother and a person/people who think Ohh I can just go to the reception are wrong. Time, money, sweat and tears go into planning both events.

I think only one or two people didn't come to the ceremony. All of our friends and family were there, and a few friends of MIL who are members of the church. The only person I can think of is my uncle who is a Catholic priest, and we got married in an episcopalian ceremony, so he said the order he's in wouldn't allow him to attend (he's in some really strict order and b/c DH and I didn't have a 6-month 'planning period' he couldn't officiate as we wanted him to, or even come to the church!). There may have been a few of the IL's friends who weren't there, but most people were.
