How many came to the reception but skipped the ceremony?

How many came to the reception but skipped the ceremony?

I was just reading some old topics (from 2005) and I came accross this discussion. And it got me thinking- there were A LOT of people who skipped the ceremony. It was a Saturday afternoon wedding in the summer, but it was raining that day, so it's not like they could have spent the day at the beach. To me, the ceremony is really the most important part. If they came to just the reception it feels like they didn't really care about our wedding, just the party.

None, but then we had the ceremony at the hall. Unless there was a good reason and I knew beforehand that the guest wasn't coming until later--or I heard later that they were lost or delayed in traffic or something valid--I would have been VERY angry if someone skipped the ceremony. Yes, the reception is fun, but the point of the day is the ceremony, so no one should miss it..

I actually have no clue as to an actual number, but from what I hear, it was a lot from ym side of the family. I would say probably about 45 people missed it.

A lot of people didn't come to the ceremony. The church was in Staten Island and the reception was in Brooklyn on Memorial Day weekend. I honestly didn't expect that many people to show up anyway. The most important people were there and that is all that matters to me.

Everyone went to our ceremony because our reception started immediately afterwards....

I have to say probably only about 2 people that I can think of missed my ceremony. I think were a few reasons for this.

the ending was so close to the st art of the reception so there wasn't a lot of free time in between. Also, in my family, Mass and the sacraments are soo important... most peopel don't miss a regular Sunday, so they definitely weren't going to miss my wedding. Also, we really only invited our family and close friends... so many people getting married invite so many people from work, their parents' colleagues, etc. etc.---people that really aren't that close to you and i think those people don't want to be 'bored' sitting through a ceremoyn of someone they hardly know.... having them eat and drink is a lot more fun, so they come to the reception only.

i think there were only about 5 ppl who didn't come to the ceremony. but we were married at the hall--so we expected a good turn out since it was 1 thing after another. we found that more ppl wanted to attend the ceremony that way!

Well we got married at the RH so everyone came to the ceremony!! There was only one couple (a LIW bride actually) who had something going on that day and missed the ceremony, but they let me know beforehand so it was all good!!

I had 5 people come to the ceremony & leave before the reception. How about that! all that money down the tubes.

I would say we probably had about 1/2 of our guests at the church. That was just my perception, I could be way off. But the church seemed pretty full.

I don't think any one was late.

We got married at the Hall....and we made the invitation read 1/2 hour before the Ceremony really started.

We had approximately 65% show up at the church, I may be a bit off, but we had a nice crowd. Cant say that I wasent a bit dissapointed that a few of our very close friends did not show up at the church, no excuses, thats just wrong, I mean we were at all of there kids parties, christenings, at there weddings, in their bridal parties, gave them bridal and baby showers and attended every other function of theres, now it was our day and they didnt even show up but they all attended the reception though, I got married a lot later in life then they did, they were all married by 21. Im so mad that I have not even talked to any of those few friends since my wedding day, it was only 3 friends and their husbands, no big thing. Actually that ratio is great for a friday wedding ceremony at 5:00 pm. Quite a few got there late too, but the church was 3/4 full and many guests and family commented that they have never seen that many people at a church for a wedding before, it was a good crowd. The Cocktail hour started at 6:45 pm

There were a lot of people who didn't come to the ceremony. I personally think it's kinda rude to come to the recpetion and not come to the ceremony. I wish I didn't feel that way, but I do. I actually really got upset with some of my friends who missed the ceremony for no good reason. I am over it now, but I am glad I am not the only one who was really upset by it. I didn't say anything to anyone about how I felt cause I thought I was being a BlTCH about it.

I feel the same way. I was most upset about my good friend from work who got married the week before me. When we were in the middle of finishing our wedding plans, we went to her ceremony, waited the two hours until the reception and stayed through the end of the reception, when we had A LOT to get done. And then they left our reception early without saying goodbye. And my husband's cousins missed it as well. I did find it hurtful, especially if there was no explanation for it.

Alot more people then we expected were at the ceremony...not sure of the numbers but the church was pretty full for a friday afternoon.

I agree that the ceremony is the most important part....I ALWAYS do my best to be at the ceremony

None for us, both in same place, one right after teh other, but I was just discussing this with a friend and I think it is beyond rude to not attend the ceremony and then to go the reception. It's as if you are saying you don't care enough about the people to watch them get married, but are happy to have them pay $150 for your dinner and drinks.

We had a Saturday evening wedding with the ceremony and reception at the same place. One couple was religious and had to wait until sundown so they missed the ceremony and another was stuck in traffic but otherwise everyone was there.

We had one family that was a no show and that annoyed me a lot more.

There were several people that didn't attend the church - I will guess in the 25% range. I am with you that the ceremony is the most important part of a wedding - without the ceremony you don't have a wedding.

I think in our case the big gap between the 2 did deter some people. I know I have one co-worker who never goes to anyone ceremony unless it is immediate family.
