As far as things like buying a house or having children go (if you want either of those things), do you have it planned out? Do you know how many years you will wait to do these things? Or are you just taking life as it comes along? DH is a big planner. He keeps saying we will look for houses in like 4 years (we bought a condo in September). It is harder for me to plan that far ahead. Although I know people who plan everything and it works out great!

We don't have an exact plan, we are happy with where we live now and houses by us are just outrageously priced anyway. As far as children, we are not ready yet.

I am more of a planner about the future than FI. We already have a house but I want to make the plan for children. We will try about 4-6 months after the wedding so I think about the money stuff now while he doesn't as much.
I am sure it all works out in the end though.

We didn't plan out things to the day or anything but I always have a 'sorta' plan for stuff.

We're trying to have a 'plan' but of course, sometimes in life, things don't always go according to plan. So.... we're just saving and saving and hopefully will be able to look for a home in a year or so. Children- the big debate in our house.. b/c of my age and the fact that we both want more than 1 child, I'd like to start YESTERDAY. Hubby is not ready though, so we're waiting a bit. I hope not to wait a year though. He wants to wait till we're financially stable- we'll never be there for a child, so- ???? we'll see what God has in store for us

My plan was to get married, buy a house, get pregnant. I got married in September, moved into our new house, in October, got pregnant in December. My next plan is to go part time but i'm not sure if that will come true

we have somewhat of a plan - we already have a 2 bedroom condo, so buying a house is not at the top of our list. we sometimes casually browse the RE section of the paper, but we're not too gung-ho about it.
having kids we have planned a little bit better - our goal is for me to be preggo towards the end of my student teaching. as it looks now, i should be student teaching during next spring. if i can deliver late-june, early july-ish, that will give me 2 months home with the baby. hopefully i will have a full-time job for that fall. baby #2 will hopefully be right as i get tenure - so the babies would be about 3 years apart. of course, they say God laughs at plans like this, and i have PCOS, so who knows how the TTC will go.

we are saving for a house now so hopefully by the end of the summer we can start looking. we agreed that we would have a house first before we had a child so that is putting extra preassure on me to get money saved to buy a house. i am going to 31 so i would like to have a child in the next year or so.

Thanks for the feedback, I always like to know what others are doing! I think for us I would like to have a house, but not for a while since I am finally getting used to our condo. As for kids, DH always says that will be after the house so who knows. I guess life happens however well planned you are. Good luck to all of those ttc or house hunting!

My husband is in graduate school full time. That has brought us to Chicago, far from our families. We think we'll wait until we're back on two incomes, get out of debt, buy a house then get pregnant - that is our 5 yr plan, which may change...

We already have the house. (I owned my house & he owned a co-op which he sold) I already have a 21year old daughter who lives with us. We are not going to have any children. The only real plans are we are going to put an extension onto our house as well as a deck. We will start working on the planning for this this year.

I have some plans, though they are not really laid-out. We would like to buy a home in about 1-2 years, but DH's job is up in the air, so we don't even know if we will be in the area 6 months from now, or in New Hampshire. As for children, I want 1-2 and DH wants 0-1. I think once we get a house, we will start seriously talking about children.

We have a 7 year plan - that's when DH has 20 years at his job and earns full pension benefits at retirement. Until then it's mostly a status quo type thing - pay off some bills, save some serious cash for a house, do some travelling, etc. At the end of 7 years, I want to move to SC, buy a house, etc.

We have planned to have children within 2 1/2 to 3yrs, wish it was sooner but we think if we wait it would be better for our future and our childrens. At that time we plan to purchase a home of sorts, if not a house then a condo/townhouse something to start off with. We know that in 5 yrs we will def want to own a house. We have also planned to go to Europe before having children so we are currently saving money for that.
There are many things that we have planned but those above are the ones we want to make happen for sure.
Right now are goals is to get are careers on track.

We have a plan and that is to save as much $ as we possibly can over the next 3 years and hopefully be able to purchase a house... As far as kids, we plan on trying August- September of this year....

Like michele, we have a sorta plan. Everything hinges on where I end up doing my residency. We know we want to buy something in the next couple of years but where and what (house vs. apt) will depend on where I am working. Beyond that, we think we will try for baby #2 in 4 -5 years. We are not huge planners, just have a general idea of what we want and take the rest day by day.

my husband and I both said out loud that we will have a house before our first anniversary and sure enough...we closed on our house in Sept of '02...on month before our anniversary!!

We sort of have a plan. I'm getting my graduate degree in education and will finish student teaching in December. From there I don't really know what will happen with a job . If I don't get a job from Student teaching (which is unlikely) we will start trying for a family at that point and I will sub for awhile. If I were lucky enough to get a job we will wait for the family for a little while. Not sure exactly when we will look for a house. We are saving like crazy now but when I student teach I won't be getting paid so we'll see......
