call your in-laws regularly?

I generally don't. Al will call them once a week or so, to say hi and catch up on things, but unless they call (which is rare) and I answer the phone, I don't talk to them much.

If there's a particular reason, I'll call. But not just for nothing. My mother seems to think I should - 'it'd be nice if you called your MIL, once in awhile - just to say Hi'

I don't know. They don't seem that comfortable on the phone and they have really heavy accents and not great english.

Should I be doing this?

My MIL calls every day on her lunch hour since I had my son, 5 months ago, its her first grandchild and my husband is an only child, so she is in a BLISS over this child. I look fwd to her phone calls, shes adorable, and we get along great. Once in a while, they can be repetitive and annoying 'so whats he doing?' i almost feel like I have to give in a status report every day, lol. but shes great.
before the baby, i called her maybe twice a week, i still do call her, if he does something funny or different, or just to ask her something or tell her something... if i am in her area in queens, i'll call her to let her see the baby any chance I get.
i let her babysit when i need to go to a shower or something, and she comes by for a day or 2 when shes off and wants to see the little guy...

as far as my mom, i talk to her about 7,000 times a day we see my parents and siblings about twice a mnth at the least....

I call every 2 weeks or so. It doesn't hurt just to say hello and talk for a few minutes, so I don't mind. Besides, I really like my in-laws.

I don't call them (unless there is a reason) and they don't call me. So I guess it is mutual. They hardly ever call my apartment - they call DH at work. I think we both try to correspond when necessary via email. SIL and I aren't currently speaking, I don't think at least. I will forward am email or something like that but I think we are better like this for now.
