Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

Seems to me like you have some strong requirements, and expensive taste... So if $175 is what it costs to get the job done right, I'm not shocked.

I think I paid $125 for my wedding makeup. Correct or not I have no idea. Thats what the person whose trial I liked best charged, so thats what I paid.

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

Not to be a big pain, but I'm curious if you ever called Laurie. I just think she is the sweetest person (and talented) so I like to send people her way.

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

Yeah with the taste you display on the boards I would say that sounds about right. Also you really want someone that knows what they are doing with the smoky eyes. If you like her quality go for it.

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

Is she coming to you or are you going to her?

For my wedding, I paid $100 for makeup and she came to me but she did have a few other girls at $75/each so it was more worth her while.

$150 seems reasonable (but I would not tip her unless she is not the owner of the business)...but why would she charge so much more for your wedding day? It should be the same no matter what the occasion IMO.

Edited to add: She should not charge you different for the type of makeup you want. Fake eyelashes are not expenive and neither are smokey eyes :P

She is comming to me..

I asked her and she said she likes it better this way..

Then she told me if she goes over 1 hr its 50 bucks more.. I was like Oh..

Not to be cheap but how do I know what is good and what isn';t..

She works at BG and deals with HIGh end clients I guess!

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

Well if she is slow I don't think the bill should run off on you. I am not with the over an hour thing.

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

I don't think the amount of money you spend on your makeup determines whether someone is good or not...if money is no object, then spend it on the person you like best. I spent $125 for my wedding makeup, and she came to me (I used Jacqueline Nicole). That was the price whether I used her for anyone else that day or not, and the price was given before she knew how much time she was going to need on me (I got the airbrush too).

So now that I got lost in a babble - I would definitely pay $150 - but I would question why it was so much more for the wedding day, when the time she spends with you should be the same.

Regarding smoky eyes - it is the colors and technique, not the quality/quantity of makeup they're using. And fake eyelashes cost nothing. I agree this shouldn't affect the price.

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

Makeup should not take more than 15 minutes...so if she is even considering taking more than an hour there is something majorly wrong here.

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

I have to second dgt's comment about the overtime charge, considering she controls how long it takes. The only reasonable explanation I can think of is that she is trying to protect against sitting around waiting for you if you aren't ready/awake/etc. Of course she should say that then... ie. If you are not ready when I arrive, I will charge $X/X minutes of waiting time...

My make up took longer than 15 minutes to do...

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

I used a guy from Trish McEvoy at Saks Fifth Avenue next to St. Patrick’s Cathedral where we got married - Fifth Avenue in NYC. This guy was incredible. And he was $150 – he took about 30 minutes tops – and didn’t dare to charge over for going past the allotted time. I have never heard of such a thing.

I would consider looking around – the price isn’t really what is important here as much as somebody who can achieve the desired look for you. But somebody that is already talking about an extra fifty here and there – I don’t know – sounds a little ridiculous.

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

T, is the 1 hour for the work or 1 hour for driving?

I think $50 for travel fee is reasonable, but extra $50 for being slow at putting make up on is not reasonable.

Re: How much should I pay for Makeup?

wow...maybe I didn't do so bad...I paid $85 each for make-up...and she came to my house...

but I did not like my makeup at the wedding...but liked it at the trial...I should have brought a picture...

edited to say: make sure you look at your make-up...I know this sounds silly, but I was so rushed I didn't pay attention in good light...when I got to the hall I hated it...(BM had to help me smooth it out), but I should have had the woman fix it..
