Since I've been married I feel like all I ever do it come home from work and clean, organize, straigthen up, etc ... I keep saying once it's all in place I'll relax on the couch - but then it's midnight and I'm off to bed. I know I've only been married for a few weeks and we are still trying to settle into our new place together but my question is ..
Do you all feel compelled to make sure 'all is in order' before you relax at night? Or do you leave it for a day or two and then straighten up & clean all at the same time?
DH is a big help but he doesn't 'see' the inorganization I see sometimes so I'm always the one up and fixing things so they are in their right place.

It depends on the day. Most days I like to straighten before bed, but sometimes I adopt DH's idea to wait for tomorrow.
I at least like to make sure the dishes are in the dishwasher and not the sink.
My biggest messy complaint is about papers and mail. DH leaves them ALL over the table and he complains when I stack them because he says he can't find anything. I have to remind him that we only have a dining room table (only a working kitchen) and while it has to be functional, I would like it to stay neat as well. I can't wait to do a big cleaning this weekend!

I do all my big cleaning on the weekend. I like things to be taken care of before I go to bed. I hate dishes in the sink. I like to keep everything neat.

We straighten up and make sure that the dishes are done. Our apt. is so tiny without any closet space..... that it doesn't matter how much we clean it always looks cluttered. I would love to spring clean everyday but I am just too exhausted from work. I do a thorough cleaning once a week.
However, due to my recent lay-off as of 2/15, I have no excuse but to have a clean house everyday!

OMG , I am laughing out loud I must say that this is my husband to a 'T'! He is not truly messy in any other way -- but when it comes to mail/papers/etc he is a royal slob! EVERY piece of mail for weeks can sit on our coffee table till infinity before I finally get fed up and demand that he sort through (basically THROW OUT ) everything

We're been married for 2 years and I feel like a maid for an eternity! I was laid off since November (one week before Thanksgiving 2004, nice holiday gift, right?) and have been looking for employment since. I spend the days job hunting on the internet as well as cleaning our apt. I'm very meticulously organized while my DH is quite messy. Our dish washer isn't working due to an electrical problem so, I immediately clean the dishes after our meals to prevent little creatures from appearing. I'm tired and quite exhausted of being a maid.

Its the all in getting used to in the beginning. I was the same way right after we got married - 'boy was I tired and now I have a schedule. Its much better now --Now I actually have time for TV Try making a schedule too - it might help

Even worse, he likes to clip coupons and leaves them on the coffee table and then the cats run the pile and they fly all over!!

I fold the blankets that are on the couch before bed, always wash the dishes or put them in the dishwasher before bed.
I usually do laundry during the week and really clean on the weekends, but I try to keep our apt looking presentable.
I feel that when I get home from work I want to relax, but first I have to cook dinner and clean that up, so why should I clean more?

Dh HAS to vacuum EVERY night ( not that I'm complaining ) and fold the blankets on the couch. I rarely keep dirty dishes in the sink. I do the biggest cleaning on the weekends. Washing the floors, bathroom, dusting, etc...
Unless I get crazy and start to rip apart my closets for no reason, most of the work is done on the weekends.

i straighten up everyday...but clean!!! on saturdays! kitchen, bathroom and vacuuming are saved for those days. but if i don't do it, dh won't either, so i have to straighten up.

DITTO, I also Hate Dirty Dishes in the sink (we don't have a dishwasher ) and MAIL on the kitchen table. I think its because growing up our table was always a mess. Everynight the stuff would get pushed to one side of the table so we could eat on the other. I swore to myself that my table would never look like that.

Funny, got in early from work todayand was going to clean. (I'm a teacher so I probably get in earlier than most people on a daily basis.) I started to read my book and then got out of the mood. Maybe after I get off of LIW I will have the urge. Hopefully you ladies can guilt me into it. Dishes are washed, mail is ok. Our apartrment just needs to be dusted, washed and vacuumed!

Seriously, why can't I just 'sit' and 'enjoy' the night? It's not like the Queen is stopping by or anyone else for that matter on a weeknight. It just irks me when things are out of order! Alright, gotta go take the white clothes out of the dryer it never ends!

too often- I am away all the time for work and it seems that dh lives like a rockstar.
As far as the papers and mail on the table- thats my #1 pet peeve.

i feel like i wrote this - i am always snapping about this.....open the mail, throw out the garbage, sort the bills, ITS NOT SO HARD! lol....i guess its a guy thing...but on a positive note my dh is getting better at it and also at keeping things neat daily....i am a big believer in the whole 'takes just as much time to put it in the wrong place than to put it away mentality!'

Well, because we're still in the moving-in process, I clean quite a bit. I'm sure once everything is more organized, I'll only be cleaning every couple of days.
