I've been a serial nail-biter my whole life, and I quit cold turkey to have nice nails for the wedding. I managed to do fine from about July until now, but now my nails are all peeling and breaking. I need some tips on how to keep them growing healthy and looking ok so that I don't start biting them again. Any suggestions?

U sed to swear by NailTek or Nailtiques before I went to acrylic nails. That stuff always worked to keep my nails strong. Give it a try!!

Re: How to keep nails healthy?
I get mine silk wrapped for awhile then take em off and just give myself weekly manicures and use this stuff my mom gave me-forget the name but I'll look when I get home. works great. My nails get really brittle so silk wrapping them works for me-don't snap off if I bang soemthing..Im ROUGH on my hands!
I also use the Burt bees banana and almond hand creams because I fidn if my skin and cuticles are i better condition, my nails seem to do better too.

Re: How to keep nails healthy?
I had acrylic for years, when I took them off my nails were like paper. I used NUTRANAIL. Not the polish, but the oil that you put on your cuticles and rub in. I kept it at work and used it several times a day. Expecially when I was on the phone I put it on an rubbed it in, it worked amazingly for me! My nails are super strong now.
PS - I know I said 'oil', but it really wasn't oily.

I found Biotin (yes the hair loss supplement) was fantastic at restoring my nail strength due to the occassional nail biting or after removing tips and/or wraps. HTH

How did you quit cold turkey? i quit once that lasted 3 minutes then I was at it again. Someone told me biting my nails is as dirty as licking a toilet and that has not put me off it I don't think anything ever will.

Re: How to keep nails healthy?
I used to use nailtek.... but it was only a temporary fix. Over time, my nails got weaker and weaker....
now my nails are super strong and perfectly white... here's the real solution:
1- stop putting cr@p on your nails! I stopped wearing nailpolish, and the splitting / cracking / yellowing grew out. Proof that the polish did the damage to start? I put polish on my nails for the first time in a couple years for the wedding.... my nails began to crack, yellow, and flake again. It FINALLY grew out this month.
2- nails are as strong as the rest of your body... eat a very good diet.... high in veg, lots of water, moderate levels of protein, and no processed foods / sodas / fake stuff.
also makes your skin look great

Re: How to keep nails healthy?
IM a serious nail biter too, very random but I have been getting acrylics forever now. I went a few weeks ago and the guy I had been going to left and Im too lazy to look for another guy, so I just let them grow out, then decided to take them off this weekend (the right way by soaking them) and now they arent long but I have been keeping away from biting them for a few days. We will see how long it lasts. I bought sally hansens nail bitter stuff and polish them clear.
