how worried are you about the Swine Flu?

Original post by TommysWife08

i was just wondering how worried you ladies are about possibly getting the Swine Flu?

i already wash my hands a lot... mainly b/c of my job... so im not really doing anything differently. we havent been to mexico... nor do we know anyone who has been.... and we dont live or work in queens so i'd say aside from washing my hands a lot and being aware of how i'm feeling, im (and DH) not really doing anything else

i was wondering what everyone else is doing/not doing?!

Re: how worried are you about the Swine Flu?

I am worried but not EXTREMELY worried.

I think the media hypes up a lot of issues. This being one of them. Remember the whole Staph Infection hysteria that was all over the news? The one you caught while working out in public gyms? I am not saying it doesn't happen BUT it was a slow news week and that was just something to talk about.

Then there was the Bird Flu. It was bad and all over the news. But also, hyped up to the max. Remember Anthrax and Sars? It goes on and on.

There will always be issues like this in the world. The media has nothing better to do but talk about the latest and hottest topic. This is one of them at the moment. It's out there. But, I think people can go on with their lives. Just wash your hands and clean areas you live / work in and you should be fine.

i'm not worried. I live in Queens and went to Mexico in March. I don't worry about stuff until it happens but i'm also sick to death of hearing about it.

yes, I am very worried- I am flying out to Orlando for business on Tuesday.

If I were going to be home, I dont think I would be concerned at all- its just the thought of being stuck on a plane for almost three hours with that canned air

i know, i am nervous to fly - i might have to fly this month.....like i said, i am a little germophobic to begin with and i already sceeeve the plane - i hate sitting in a seat i know someone else was just sitting in, probably farting on it, sneezing, coughing, touching everything with their dirty hands.....ugh it makes me to think about it....now besides the general grossness i have to worry about this

not freaking out or anything but just being cautious. Using anti bacterial alot more now, whenever im out in public i do now and especially on the train.

Also, you dont have to live in queens or even have gone to mexico to get it, it can happen so many other ways. I live in queens for example, not that far from St. Francis Prep, but i take the train everyday into the city, ACTUALLY i take the LIRR to penn and then take another train to head downtown. If lets say i was infected, i would infect ppl from LI and Manhattan. Also alot of kids from St. francis live in nassau, LI thats why there were case in Nassau. I was a bit worried bc my managers sons go to St. francis and one of their friends does have it. They got tested but then again theyre going back to school so you never know. Now there are 116 cases in NYC, so like i said i wont freak out but im being a little bit more careful. Didnt help that my manager came in sick today lol

also the fact that world health organization raised it to a level 5 didn't help, for it to be a pandemic serious issue level 6 is the highest and the alert it would be on. The WHO has never raised it to a level 5 before ever

I'm nervous mostly when I go to work. I work in a hospital and I'm right at the bedside. Someone could have the virus and spread it before experiencing symptoms. That is a little scary to me. My friend works in the ER and said the patients have beenhysterical about it and threatening to sue! For what I don't know she could wear a mask we hand them out now.

I don't think anti-bacterial will do anything for the flu. It's a virus. It's better to wash your hands.

Re: how worried are you about the Swine Flu?

I have to say I'm not that worried even though my boss's son goes to St. Francis prep and has the flu. It hasn't been confirmed swine flu though many cases did come from that school. My boss has been walking around with clorox wipes and washing her hands and has no symptoms. I really think the media is blowing it out of proportion. That's not to say I don't think it's a serious issue but I'm not going to freak out about it.

On a related note, my best friend's step sister was supposed to get married tomorrow in Mexico and so many people called and said they weren't flying to Mexico so on Tuesday she changed the whole wedding to LA where she lives. I mean luckily there weren't a ton of people coming anyway because it was destination wedding but I just feel so bad for this poor girl. The week of your wedding is supposed to be last minute stuff and relaxing with your family. I am sure she will have a beautiful wedding but it's such a stressful thing.

well i wash my hands too lol, but yes it does work doctors said to use alcohol based anti bacterial. SOme said you can even use rubbing alcohol.

I use it when im on the train and stuff and cant wash my hands, or out somewhere after i touch things. But i wash my hands frequently too.

I found out yesterday that st. francis has more infected ppl and that it was dormant for some so now my manager has to test his kids again this weekend. His youngest who goes to elementary so not at st francis, also spread there. So now the other kid is at risk. Working with somebody whose kids go to 2 schools that are infected, i think about it alot. I am not freaking out, i mean if i start feeling sick ill just go to the doctor right away. Its not like outbreak or anything lol. If you get immediate attention and get tamiflu right away, seems like you'll be fine.

I'm not worried. If I get it, I get it. From what I hear this has the same symptoms as the influenza flu. So If I got it I would ride it out, b/c there's nothing else you can do. Again I just don't get it, I'm sure in the fall/winter 116 people all had the flu at the same time.

I would be scared if everyone who contracted it was dying.
