How would you feel about NOT being invited

Original post by Shorty McBride

to a wedding in which your DH is the best man?

HYPOTHETICALLY, of course.

Does it make it worse that the groom-to-be says he wants you there, but the GF is adamant that you are not welcome? You've personally known the groom for 8 years... and he was the best man at your own wedding. You met the girl once in a party setting and she went off to an empty table and painted her acrylic tips instead of conversing.

For the record, they were both invited to your wedding, although the GF chose not to come.

...they just set the date - the wedding is 6 months away.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know why this minutia is even bothering me.... thankfully my DH has decided to do the right thing (in my opinion) and stand up for me by NOT GOING unless I'm welcome. Love him!

People actually DO this?!?!?

I've already gotten a few opinions and most seem to think this chick has maturity issues.

Seems harsh. One would think that the groom is part of the wedding and should have a say in some of the invitation list.
Your DH is a great guy to stick up to you like that. You are very lucky!

ur DH is the best man?!?!?!!! not inviting u is entirely ridiculous. this girl obviously has no class & is extremely immature..

the girl is probably jealous. she knows that her wedding won't be near as beautiful as yours was. she won't even come close

I'd be pissed, and I'd hope my DH would stand up and let them know that my wife is eitherinvited, or I'm not a best man in oyur wedding.

You guys are a team now. If they can't accept you for whatever her immature issues are, they are so not worthy of a friendship, never mind your DH to be their BM!!!

This girl sounds like a child! A husband and wife is a package deal...it's either both or nothing!! Her hubby to be needs to put her in check! Good luck!

I would be a bit upset if I wasn't invited to a wedding where DH was in the bridal party.
I know I would not go if it was reversed... I also know that DH would do the same thing- not be a part of it unless I can come as well.

When DH and I were dating for a year, he got invited to his cousin's wedding- without me. He asked and explained that we were in a serious relationship and have been seeing each other for over a year and his cousin still said no.. that got DH mad and he ended up not going.

Rude, hurtful, and in very bad taste...whatever issues the GF has with you she should be putting them aside for her finance since he sees your husband as a very important person in his life & wedding...however 'nice' the groom to be thought he was in forewarning your husband it does not change the fact this is RUDE...I'm sure we all had folks we wished we didn't have to invite to our weddings...but in the end we did the right thing...shame on her for being so childish.

Re: How would you feel about NOT being invited

the FW is crazy in my opinion! How can you not invite the best man's WIFE??????? really, if you invite anyoen that is married, you must invite their spouse, and even more so if they're in the bridal party. granted, do sometimes the bride or groom not know spouses as well as their friends ---- of course! but you still invite... she sounds immature. i wouldn't worry about that. just go for your friend the groom.

Re: How would you feel about NOT being invited

This has never happened to me personally, but my cousin's told me about a similar situation where her DH's cousin was getting married and she made it very clear that she wanted him to attend the wedding but not her (they didnt get along a particular event caused a major rift). My cousin's DH did the same thing and let her know that his wife is his family and if she isnt invited then he's not attending. Needless to say she was fuming! Some people it seems can be very immature no matter what their age.

What is wrong with people? You are the best man's wife and they're not inviting you?!?!?
I would be RAGING MAD!!!
Good for your DH to stick up for you! Tell his friend to grow a set and stand up to his FW!!

I just looked back at the card from our wedding and it was signed both of them...

was it HIS handwriting or hers?

On a side note, this happened to me once but I wasn't married. I had a BF I had been with for 5 years but we didn't live together. My BF was the BM and it was his roommate getting married. I knew the roommate & bride VERY well. I went with the groom to pick out the engagement ring for Christ's sake!!!!!

Then I find out a WEEK before that I wasn't invited. My BF was afraid to tell me. Apparently, they did the old 'if you're not married, engaged or living together, you don't get to bring a date.' Um, ok but we've been together 5 years & we just choose not to live together. We were actually together longer than the B&G. They said I could 'meet them at the hotel bar afterwards'. Gee thanks. how generous.

I never spoke to either of them again. And they divorced less than a year later, so HA HA HA on them.

i'd be totally ticked off. it's completely rude and it sounds to be without merit or reason. glad your dh stood up for you. something tells me the reaction on the other end would be a crying fit with stomping of feet and pounding of fists...

It sounds like she is doing you a favor by not inviting you. Who would want to celebrate anything with that sour puss?

Did the invites come yet? How can you know your not invited yet?

groom called and 'warned' DH.

Yeah, you're right - she probably is doing me a favor....but that's not going to stop me from getting upset over it!

The groom needs to stop being such a vagina. Does he know what he is getting into if his best friend's wife can't come to the wedding? I would have a hard time being friends with someone who told me my DH was not welcome. We come as a set, not sold separately.

Ditto! I was just thinking 'Man this guy needs to grow some ballz!!!!

Wow, that is messed up!!! The groom to be was in your wedding party. Did his Bride to be attend your wedding? I know that you said that they both signed the card that they gave you and DH. Either way that is so messed up that they did not include you. Common sense you two are a couple and Groom To Be was the Best Man in your wedding. They should have the courtsey to invite you two as a couple. How does your husband feel about the subject?
