Hyphenated Brides: Do you correct people when they call you Mrs. XXXX?
How many of you who hyphenated, correct people if they call you Mrs. XXX?I can't stand it. I chose to keep my name for a reason.
I hate it even more when DH writes our names as Mr & Mrs XXX. It makes me feel like he isn't happy with my choice.

My name is so long, that most just drop HIS part of the name...and that makes him mad.My kids at school just call me by my maiden name...and I'm fine by that.

I'm mostly my maiden name - at work, on bills, etc. I only use the hypenate for legal things. I mostly did it so that I would have the same name as my kids, and they're not here yet. I introduce myself as Nadine Maiden. When we have kids I'll be Mrs. Hisname sometimes, still mostly Ms. Maiden. He's fine with it, he still asks me if I want to keep his name on there.

At work I am still going by my name; too many complicating factors in making a name change at work. My clients are still going to call me what they always call me...'social worker'; most dont even remember my name anyway. I am also keeping my name for all of my financial stuff; we dont have a joint account yet, but I will stick his last name in there when we get around to opening one.As for social, I have been making it pretty clear to people that I am hyphenating; one example would be the return address of the TY's.
This can be sooooooooo hard.

YES I DO....especially his family. They *refuse* to recognize my family name. It really bothers me!!!Like someone else posted. My name is very long as well (over 20 letters) so many times I will just use my name. (or even a shortened version of it if I am writing).

Well, we both hyphenated and on all the thanks you's and xmas cards last year and EVERY piece of mail I send, we put Mr & Mrs S. MyName-HisName. I have not made an issue of verbally correcting people (except immediate family who asked 'Do I REALLY have to put both on the cards? It makes my formatting the labels harder' To whom I responded - 'YES, you do!!' and they do.) But, I don't really say anything, rather, I keep hoping that if they see the return address, they may actually use the name. It really bothers me to, esp since we BOTH took that name, so it seems like even though it is VERY long, at least it doesn't have to say MR Scott HisName & Mrs. Pamela MyName-HisName. I keep wanting to tell people who give us a hard time or think it doesn't matter, that I'll just refer to them as John Smith even though their name is Eddie Jones' since that is what it feels like to me.I recognize that the name is kind of crazy and, kind of a PITA, but, it's what we decided.
Though, I will admit, sometimes at work when I order something and they need my name, I just use MyName casue it's easier.

So far I have had some work people make the assumption that I changed my name as well as my MIL who can't see to accept that I hyphenated. She actually made me sign card using first and last name (for a shower) and she insisted that I only put their name. It was annoying and felt unnatural.Ugh! Well, at least I am not alone. Thanks ladies!

The MILs are the worst when it comes to this

Re: Hyphenated Brides: Do you correct people when they call you Mrs. XXXX?
Yeah, I couldn't really get into using the whole name all the time. The only time I told someone my name was Ms. Myname-HisName was when I was calling Macy's Bridal Registry and it felt so weird to have them call me that, I decided that for most purposes I would be one or the other. On the thank you cards the return addy is Ms. Nadine Myname-Hisname and Mr. Arie Hisname, which is clunky, but it's probably only one of the few times I'm using it. But so many women use the Maiden as the middle instead of the hypen, and it gets lost. My MIL is one, and she has tons of friends like that as well - only called by Hislast. I'm really wary of that.

Legally, I haven't changed anything yet.but, when my coworkers ask who I 'really am', I say Mrs. Hisname.
Also, his cousin is getting married soon. They have sent everything to Mr. and Mrs. John Hisname.
The shower invite was addressed to Mrs. Susan Hisname.
I'm not going to correct anyone because I don't even know who I want to be, yet...
