I can't believe our marriage license came in the mail today. I was wondering for those of you who have changed your name, do I need to order a copy (at $10 a piece) for everything I need to change? DMV, credit cards, Social security, cell phone, bank info, insurance, ...there are so many things.

No you don't need to order a copy. They will make a copy and give it back to you. Good luck!

When you change your name for your Passport you need to mail in your original marriage lic. However they will mail it back to you. If you want you can order another one for $10 just incase theres a problem (which wont happen) My DH had to send his original birth cert, naturalization papers, all original paper work and he got it all back.
For SS, DMV, Bank they just look at it and hand it right back to you.

I changed my name at DMV and SS and they just needed to see it, they didn't keep a copy of it. The bank just wanted a copy of it and they made the photocopy for me. All my cc's just required me to tell them and I much to my disappointment...I already lost my certificate! Can you believe it! I have to go get another certified copy but the original can never be replace

Thanks for all the info. DH and I are going to the bank today to start changing things. He has to go with me because we have joint accounts and he needs to sign.
