I am going to KILL my DH.....REALLY!

I simply cannot take living like a teenager anymore....papers, stuff all over. We have no storage stuff, closets but nothing to put stuff in, and with our budget, we can't just go and buy what we need.

The bag of garbage has been sitting in the kitchen for 4 days now. 'Well, you can take it out too'.....ummm...can you also do the laundry, clean the bathrooms, dust, mop the floor, cook, and vacuum weekly?? NO??? I didn't think so.

UGH!! And then he says all I have to do is ask...why should I have to ask when the garbage is right there in front of his face!!!!!!

Re: I am going to KILL my DH.....REALLY!

It sounds really silly, but DH and I used to argue about chores all the time when we first moved in together so we came up with a system. We took a dry erase board and listed all of the household chores down one side and our names across the top. Everytime we did a specific chore we put an 'X' in the specific column under our name. We never liked to think the other one was 'winning' so we would try to do more. After a few months we figured out that he tended to do more of certain things and I did more of others. It was a good way to get us in the habit of doing chores.

Re: I am going to KILL my DH.....REALLY!

yep! I have to argue with Dh about throwing out the garbage too. I mean like you said I do the laundry, dusting, vaccuming.and when he throws out the garbage he will say something like oh I guess i have to throw the garbage out. and i am like yes. I mean yes he does the bills but i do everything else and dishes too I do we have a dishwasher though in our apartment.I tell ya its like pulling teeth.

Re: I am going to KILL my DH.....REALLY!

You guys really need to split up the chores like someone above suggested (i forget who said it sorry!) Otherwise it just becomes he said she said should coulda woulda LOL ..... you just need to divide the chores and thats it. I used to beg and plead my DH to take out the garbage. In my eyes, it was a man's job bc my dad took out the garbage every night before he locked up. Well, my DH did the SAME thing yours is doing now and it sat there....so you guessed it, my job now is to take out the trash, load and unload the dishwasher, take care of the pets food water etc, clean the bathroom and do laundry. He takes care of the household fixing stuff and he also mops the floors and vaccuums on the weekend. You just have to divide it plain and simple.

Re: I am going to KILL my DH.....REALLY!

Ahhhhh! DH does the SAME thing Shana. It's like dealing with a child. There will be stuff RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS FACE and it's like it's invisible to him.
He also used to say the same thing to me about why don't I just ask him if I want him to do something
So finally I just decided that if he's going to act like a child then I'll just treat him like one (in the sense that he can't figure out simple things like if the garbage is full, EMPTY IT! And THEN PUT A CLEAN BAG IN THE TRASH CAN!!!!)

Every weekend I'll either give him the dreaded 'honey do' list (he asked for it) of I'll just verbally tell him what I need him to do.

He gets it done, but on his own time schedule (which is usually after he's done playing hours of video games and watching every football game on tv )

Re: I am going to KILL my DH.....REALLY!

Training, training, training...also...cleaning woman. Now there are less chores to split and if the cleaning woman missed something I get DH to call her on it. He is much more picky than I am..I'm just happy I'm not left to do everything anymore!

And lazy!!!!! Wouldn't it be nice if we could all just slack off all the time. But hey, that's just NOT how life is!!!! (unless you're a friggin millionaire!)

What kills me about DH is that he's anal about things being in order everywhere except in his own house. We'll go to the gym and he gets annoyed when people put the weights in the wrong place, so he has to re-arrange them. Or if we go to the supermarket and I pull something off the shelf, but then decide I don't want it and put it back in the wrong place, he gets mad at me and puts it where it belongs.

So finally I was like, 'why can't you be this tidy in your own house you dingbat!!!!!'
I give up.........

Re: I am going to KILL my DH.....REALLY!

Somehow I convinced my DH that there are bad people who hang out by the trash dumpster in the alley behind our house - now every time I reach for a garbage bag, DH runs over and says 'No no, honey, let me go run that outside! You shouldn't have to go out there'

Pains in the butt...yes. Easily manipulated...yes.

Re: I am going to KILL my DH.....REALLY!

too funny!!!

when our garbage is too full, he tells me not to throw any more garbage in the can, and thats it...doesnt change the garbage or anything, just makes me aware that its full!! ...so then i just start a new bag and leave it on the floor...sometimes i'll put a clean bag over the garbage can...that usually gives him a hint!!

Re: I am going to KILL my DH.....REALLY!

DH is good about doing things when I ask him to...AFTER he's done playing video games. However, I get really annoyed that he never takes initiative to do things on his own. Sometimes I will leave things to see if he notices. He rarely does. The other day, I said, 'you know, I cleaned the shower out today. It was pretty gross.'

Him: 'Yeah, I meant to tell you that.'
Me: 'a better idea would be to do it yourself!' Him:'I tried, it wouldn't just wipe up. You need to use something on it.'
Me: What did you try to do?
Him: I just tried to use water to rinse it out.
Me: So you're telling me that I need to use a cleanser to clean the tub out? What a novel idea! What do you think I ALWAYS use???

I totally hear you- DH never fails to complain when the house gets really messy, but acts like he is doing me a favor when I ask him to take out the garbage, organize the desk, etc
