I am so upset...

I am so upset...

Went and got my hair done after work...

When I got home, I wasn't sure whether or not my husband was in our spot in the garage or not (he had the keys but he was off yesterday so he would be able to park on the street)..

I circled around the neighborhood for 1/2 hour looking for a spot. My phone died so I couldn't call him to ask if he could bring me the keys to the garage...

Finally I decided to double park, run upstairs and get the key. Turns out he left the spot in the garage open, and left me a VM to tell me. Of course I didn't get it b/c my phone was dead.

So I go running back downstairs and get in my car. A cop drives past me and stops in front of me. He jumps out of his car and holds his hand out for me to stop.

HE GAVE ME A 115 DOLLAR TICKET FOR DOUBLE PARKING!!!!

I understand, it's illegal.. I know this. People in our neighborhood do it all the time b/c the parking is horrendous. When I pick my son up from the babysitter I usually double park, run up & grab him. People are ALWAYS double parking and it's never a problem... I guess maybe b/ c it was raining, they were being strict.

I'm just so mad b/c I was just about to LEAVE when he pulled up. I pleaded with him, explained that I just ran to get my keys and couldn't find a spot but he wasn't having it...Understood. It was raining outside etc etc.

I know he's just doing his job, and theres nothing I can do to fight it, but I'm so p*ssed b/c the ticket is for 115 dollars.
Had it been a normal 45 dollar parking ticket, it would be easier to swallow.

my HAIR cost less... and money is so tight right now I couldn't help but cry.

yes. I cry over parking tickets. All I keep thinking is I could have gotten another bday present for aidan with 115... I could have put that money towards his communion party.

What a jerk! I would definitely try to fight it! You were in the car at the time he gave you a ticket- that's so unfair.

Sounds like he was having a bad day and took it out on you.

Yea i agree. Someone probably gave him grief. I feel your pain because money is tight. Maybe fight it? I dont know if that would make it worse though because you knew it was illegal and though you had a good reason, they might not consider it valid. BUT as Keriann said, you WERE in the car.

That really stinks caroline!

If it makes you feel better, friends of mien and I once got a ticket for 'not wearign our seatbelts'; mind you we were pulled over at random at the Jersey Shore, and they made us get out because we were young at the time and the driver was asked to give his lisence and registration and step out of the car. He undid his seatbelt to do that as did the rest of us. The cop couldnt find anythign wrong (other than being a bunch of 21 year olds in a car at the shore) so they ticketed us for 'not wearing our seatlbelts'. we were young and it was the word of 4 kids against a cop and at the time we all fit th opunky image so it s*cked.

I hope your story has a happier ending though!

can't fight it.
I've TRIED fighting a double parking ticket before. It was raining and I had to pick my son up from my 82 year old grandmother... I didn't want her to have to come down in the rain with my son..

judge didn't care, double parking is illegal.

I might go to the courthouse and take the pleabargain they offer you... it's usually like 25 dollars less than the ticket.

seems like the only time they get you for double parking is when it is raining...

I am so sorry that happened! Don't worry, you are a good person and I bet that money will come back to you somehow and everything will even out. . .

That is really expensive for a ticket though, I am surprised.

I wouldnt have DEFINITELY fought that... he told you to get out of the car... how are you supposed to do that without taking your seatbelt off?

i wouldnt have shed a tear, had the ticket been a 45 dollar one... Tickets are RIDICULOUS these days. and the parking situation in queens doesn't help.

I hate having a car. seriously. I wish i worked in manhattan so i wouldn't have to drive.

Re: I am so upset...

I know your area and it really suucks on parking.
The main reason why we turned down an apartment there.
We double park when we pick up the in-laws, but I usually sit in the truck and wait while DH goes up to get them.
The complex really needs to build a multi level parking garage, but prolbem is, where would all the cars go during construction ?

Hope you can get a reduced fine on your ticket. Like you said, it would have been nice to have that money for Aidan.

Yea the driver tried but we all fit that 'description' of troublemakers; the multiple tatooss, piercings, wearing all black etc. So thats why he pulled u over-thought we were drinking or smoking most likely but we were good kids. We used to go to the shore just to play DAnce Dance Revolution lol.

Hmmm as far as your ticket, defiently dont fight it then because it might make it worse. Cry, eat something thats fattenign and will make you feel better till you remember its fattening and then just try to avoid double parking again.

Cop is still an @ss though/

We have a spot in the garage over by the joint board... problem is we have 2 cars... Another issue is that we only have one key so it depends on who has the key at the moment... I always try to park on the street if my DH is working late & vice versa. If my phone wasn't dead this wouldn't have happened.

The parking blows but I'll tell you... can't beat the rent and all inclusive utilities.

Re: I am so upset...

you can also plead not guilty and mail it in with your reason, (something like you decided to pull over for a second because you had trouble seeing the road) and they usually reduce it by like $15-20, instead of having to go to the court. sooo sorry. i know it sux when you could've used that 100 bucks towards something else worth it.

man i think i would have cried too - i hate it when you have NO other option but to double park and its just for a quick minute - meanwhile there are a-holes who leave their cars doubleparked on major streets and don't get caught.

Do what I do... just don't pay it! SUUUUUURE it'll catch up with you in a year or so when you go to renew your registration but by then you might have more money.

Sincerely,

Sorry to hear about the ticket - sounds like the cop had his panties in a bunch. BUT more importantly - how did the hair come out??? Did you go brunette?
