I am soo upset

DH and I kind of adopted 2 ferrets about 3 months into our relationship, a friend of his was going to Afghanistan and couldnt take care of them, so we did. They pretty much were lose 90% of the time, they roamed the apartment (no sweat they are litter trained) all the time. When we moved into this apartment we had to cage them. We let them lose once in awhile. One of them (Baby) started acting funny, falling down thru the cage, couldnt pick herself up, etc. so we took her to the vet (2x actually) and both times they tried their best but I guess we just couldnt fix whats broken.

DH just dropped a bomb-she has slowly gotten worse and he went to pick her up today and he said that he thinks goodbye is in order, he is taking her to the vet tomorrow and they may put her down I am a hysterical sobbing mess

I know she is in pain and its the right thing but I feel horrible walking in there to basically kill her-Im just not comfortable doing it. I dont even know what to do with myself

Peg... putting an animal down is the worst thing ever... You have to believe that your ferret will be in a better place and that she will no longer be in pain... I am really sorry... it suxx... wish there was something better I can say...

Peggy, I'm so sorry to hear that! I know how you feel and it really is an awful, heartbreaking feeling! That's the bad thing about having pets. You can grow to love them so much, but unfortunately they can't live as long as we'd like them to. Having to make the decision to put a beloved pet to sleep is very difficult and painful, but if the animal is suffering and there is nothing the vet can do, then it's basically the only way to end the animal's suffering. I wish there was more that vets could do to help animals avoid all the pain that they go through as they age because no pet owner should have to decide when to say goodbye to their pets. It's too heartbreaking. I do hope it works out for the best and that the vet is able to help your ferret get better.

Thanks ladies...Dh didnt take her today I know its just another day of her in pain but he knew that they werent going to let him leave with her if they decided she needed to be put down. So he is going to go tomorrow-and eventho I just started my job-I have already spoken to them and if I need to leave it is NOT a problem. I just dont know if I want to go.

I feel like if he goes with out me it may be easier...but i dont want her to be alone-Im so torn b/c I am beyond upset. I know it sounds ridiculous but I cant stop crying, Ihave a headache from fighting back tears...so I am sittin gon the floor with my laptop and her in my lap...maybe at some point I will feel better but right now I just dont.
