I feel so bad for DH, don't know what to do

Last night DH went out to eat with 2 of his friends who couldn't make it to his party, well one did but he works in a club so had to leave early, they felt bad so took him to his favorite steakhouse that he has eaten at plenty of times. He came home early which surprised me but he said after he ate his stomach was killing him and he had to come home. Now we both have sensitive stomachs so i didnt think much of it and thought he just ate alot. He went right to bed, and i feel bad bc i went in the LR to watch tv and somehow fell asleep on the couch. At 5am DH comes in calling my name but then runs bc he had to throw up. I get up and he told me he has been throwing up since 4am and threw up about 6 times or more. The worst part was that he said he was screaming for me since 4am and i wouldnt wake up, i felt horrible


He said he drank water and after a few sips he had to throw up. I didnt know what to do for him bc he said he couldnt take anything he would just throw it up. At first last night i just thought he had the stomach flu since my mom just had it and thought he caught it somehow.

But now this morning i was thinking about it and i dont think thats what it is. I think he has food poisoning. He felt 100% fine before he left the house and he got sick right after dinner so kinda stupid of me to not think about food poisoning. And he just threw up way too much. He did have clams and shrimp as apps that they all shared so can be the shrimps since shellfish is a common cause of food poisoning. He also ate steak and it was medium rare, usually he likes medium but of course at a steakhouse you have to eat it medium raremaybe it was too rare. I was also reading that veggies are a big cause of food poisoning many times bc of certain bacteria's that can be in them and he had creamed spinach

ugh if it is food poisoning which is very likely. What can I do, should i take him to the doctor. I read that its normal for it to last 24-48 hours and if it lasts longer then go to the doctor. But doesn't seem like theres much to do. I did buy him pedialyte since he is throwing up so much and its good if you throw up alot bc will help prevent dehydration which is common when this happens. Anything else I can do? at least to ease the pain a bit

he is finally sleeping now so i'll let him sleep for a while bc he was up from 4am and even at 9am was still up.

awww poor dh! Ive never had food poisoning before so i dont have much advise..but i hope he feels better soon!

Aww Denise I'm so sorry to hear about DH! If he can't keep water down take ice and crush it into chips and have him put them into his mouth and let them melt, this way it hydrates his mouth and only little amount are going into his tummy so it won't 'shock' it. If he's still throwing up and can't keep water down by tomorrow I would take him to the ER so they can hydrate him.

Thank you about the ice tip, he always chews ice so he won't mind that at all. I still will make him try pedialyte later on and hopefully he can keep it down. I am praying when he wakes up that he will be a lot better and that he got most of it out of his system. But yes if he is still throwing up this much which is ALOT then i will take him to the ER

Denise I dont want to scare you but just be careful. It could be his appendix. When Chris had his appendix removed last summer he had the same problem. Right after dinner he started throwing up and had massive pain. He couldnt keep anything down. The pain wasnt even on his right side because his appendix wasnt in the usual spot its supposed to be. If he doesnt feel better by the end of today maybe he should see a doc. I hope he feels better

Denise I dont want to scare you but just be careful. It could be his appendix. When Chris had his appendix removed last summer he had the same problem. Right after dinner he started throwing up and had massive pain. He couldnt keep anything down. The pain wasnt even on his right side because his appendix wasnt in the usual spot its supposed to be. If he doesnt feel better by the end of today maybe he should see a doc. I hope he feels better

I was going to say this also.. This is very similar to what happen to me. I would say that if the pain and sickness doesn't subside soon, go to the doctor. I made the mistake of waiting to long.

Sorry to hear. Maybe it is a bug b/c my friend had to bee rushed to the hosp. the other day b/c she thought it was food poising b/c she got sick after eating. Turns out it wasnt and she has been out of work for a week. I hope he feels better!

I'm sorry Denise, I have no new advice other than what the girls have said. Well maybe some pedialyte. I've been told that's easier to keep down than even water. I hope your DH feels better soon

UGGGG i've had food poisoning before and it is the WORST thing EVER!!!!!!!! i totally know what your DH is going through!!!

unfortunately, aside from making sure DH is hydrated, you can only wait until it passes...if he has is for more than 24 hours then i would take him to the ER!

also - if he has it more than 24 hours and starts getting the chills/sweats then def go to the ER!

i wouldnt eat anything b/c he will just throw it up! its best he gets everything out of his stomach... he will continue to dry heave for a while (at least thats what happened to me)

it suucks but you just gotta hang in there with him!!!!!

Aw, that stinks...poor guy! It's probably good that he's finally able to sleep for awhile. I hope he feels better soon!
