Last night DH went out to eat with 2 of his friends who couldn't make it to his party, well one did but he works in a club so had to leave early, they felt bad so took him to his favorite steakhouse that he has eaten at plenty of times. He came home early which surprised me but he said after he ate his stomach was killing him and he had to come home. Now we both have sensitive stomachs so i didnt think much of it and thought he just ate alot. He went right to bed, and i feel bad bc i went in the LR to watch tv and somehow fell asleep on the couch. At 5am DH comes in calling my name but then runs bc he had to throw up. I get up and he told me he has been throwing up since 4am and threw up about 6 times or more. The worst part was that he said he was screaming for me since 4am and i wouldnt wake up, i felt horrible
He said he drank water and after a few sips he had to throw up. I didnt know what to do for him bc he said he couldnt take anything he would just throw it up. At first last night i just thought he had the stomach flu since my mom just had it and thought he caught it somehow.
But now this morning i was thinking about it and i dont think thats what it is. I think he has food poisoning. He felt 100% fine before he left the house and he got sick right after dinner so kinda stupid of me to not think about food poisoning. And he just threw up way too much. He did have clams and shrimp as apps that they all shared so can be the shrimps since shellfish is a common cause of food poisoning. He also ate steak and it was medium rare, usually he likes medium but of course at a steakhouse you have to eat it medium raremaybe it was too rare. I was also reading that veggies are a big cause of food poisoning many times bc of certain bacteria's that can be in them and he had creamed spinach
ugh if it is food poisoning which is very likely. What can I do, should i take him to the doctor. I read that its normal for it to last 24-48 hours and if it lasts longer then go to the doctor. But doesn't seem like theres much to do. I did buy him pedialyte since he is throwing up so much and its good if you throw up alot bc will help prevent dehydration which is common when this happens. Anything else I can do? at least to ease the pain a bit
he is finally sleeping now so i'll let him sleep for a while bc he was up from 4am and even at 9am was still up.

You should put DH on the BRAT diet
Bananas Applesauce Rice Toast
once he can hold down some fluids, make sure he drinks small room temp sips of the liquids.
if he starts to vomit again i would call your doctor or go to the E.R. if it seems like uncontrolled vomiting.
it could be food poisioning, stomach flu, appendix, etc...
just keep a watchful eye. holding fluids is a good sign but watch for symptoms of dehydration
yeah thats what i did, problem though is dh is allergic to fruits such as banana's and apples, BUT luckily we found out its bc of an enzyme problem he has so its the nutrients and vitamins in them that he is allergic to so once its broken down he can eat it, just cant eat a raw banana or apple so i bought him the gerber banana baby food thing lol and he ate that and bought the gerber applesauce too. Plus he ate toast with it and had some pedialyte and also now drinking gatorade.
He hasnt thrown up since he woke up this afternoon so that is a good sign. My mom had a stomach virus last week and saw what she went through and it was different than him so i figured it wasnt the stomach virus. Now that he hasnt thrown up or gone to the bathroom i do think it was the food.
he told me he threw up 15x from the time he got home last night until this morning, so now he is just very sore and very run down. But i think now he will start getting better. I am gonna make rice for him and also read that potatoes are good so maybe a baked potato.

Sorry Denise. I have had food poisoning a few times and ended up in the hospital twice from dehydration. I would just keep doing what your doing and make sure hes hydrated. If things get worse, go to the ER. Hope he feels better soon.

I've had food poisoning a couple of times and it really *****. I'm just concerned that he is so sick, unless he ate a lot of the food that made him sick.
Water will make him throw up. Try some weak tea, pedialyte as you already tried, some ginger ale or even warm coca cola (not diet) to sooth the stomach. Take some of the bubbles out and let him sip it.
Another trick is the heavy syrup in canned peaches. Let him try a teaspoon or two every 20 minutes to see if that will calm his stomach. It acts as a coating. Learned this from my nephew's pediatrician.

yeah he ate ALOT of it. Its so hard bc dh is allergic to fruit, if its from the an directly he cant eat the peaches. Applesauce he can do bc if its cooked down it takes out the vitamins he is allergic to, same with the baby food banana's.
Hmmm interesting about the coca cola. He has been drinking gatorade the past few hours bc he said the pedialyte was too sweet which wow i tasted some and so very sweet.

aw I hope he feels better soon! I had vomitting a couple of weeks ago (so bad I stayed home from work) I was throwing up constantly..So I know there is a bad virus going around..maybe that could also be the reason? Mine only lasted a day or 2 at most..so if he's not feeling better I would definately see a doctor..it could be food poisining also...

thank you for asking. Yeah he ate a little last night, but just some chicken broth w. noodles and i boiled some red potatoes and he ate those with just some salt on it, didnt eat much of it but at least he didnt throw it up

yeah its crazy so many ppl have some stomach bug. My mom had it but hers lasted 5 days. Sorry you had gotten sick too. He is a lot better now, still weak and run down but at least not puking constantly

glad to hear he is doing better. i have had that bug before and it is no fun at all. i only threw up 3x but was down for the count for a week after that.

Lea-you are histerical and i think he jinxed himself bc he said the same thing to my mom last week, he said hey i wouldn't mind if i lost weight well he got it lol

Denise I dont want to scare you but just be careful. It could be his appendix. When Chris had his appendix removed last summer he had the same problem. Right after dinner he started throwing up and had massive pain. He couldnt keep anything down. The pain wasnt even on his right side because his appendix wasnt in the usual spot its supposed to be. If he doesnt feel better by the end of today maybe he should see a doc. I hope he feels better
I was going to say this also.. This is very similar to what happen to me. I would say that if the pain and sickness doesn't subside soon, go to the doctor. I made the mistake of waiting to long.

I don't have the time to read everyone's comments but just want to say this happened to my coworker's husband. Definately get it check out. I really hope it's not his appendix. Good luck and let us know what happens.
