I got this email today from the NYCDOE today

Congratulations! You have been chosen to interview for our TRQ Select program,
managed by the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality (TRQ). TRQ Select
members will be a group of candidates who show the highest potential for
teaching and will receive a higher level of support with their job search than
the average applicant. This support will include access to a recruiter and
automatic invites to any recruitment events that the Office of Teacher
Recruitment and Quality may host.

Why participate in TRQ Select?
Members of TRQ Select will be marketed to principals as having demonstrated
evidence, in both their written application and an interview, that they have a
track record of prior achievement and potential to become an excellent teacher
and change agent in their school. In a year of uncertainty around hiring, we
highly encourage qualified teachers to take advantage of this opportunity to
interview for the program and the extra level of support.

Who will be chosen for TRQ Select?
TRQ Select will be a diverse mix of candidates that show capacity to improve
student achievement and serve as an effective leader and contributor to a school
community. Some TRQ Select teachers will have prior teaching experience, while
others will be recent college grads with a record of excellence. Some will be
native New Yorkers and some will be from other states across the country.

Who is eligible for TRQ Select?
We will be interviewing in February teachers certified in Special Education and
Science (including Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physics) who are
immediately available for employment, and meet the New York State certification
requirements. Teachers with Internship or Transitional B certificates will not
be eligible for TRQ Select.

Please note that if you are certified in Biology, you will be considered for
General Science (Middle School).

To view available times please follow the link below and login using your user
name and password. Interviews should last about 30 minutes. YIf you are
interviewing for a subject area in which you will teach Mathematics (e.g.
Special Education, elementary level), you will be required to take a 30 minute
math assessment after the interview is complete.

If you still have questions, please contact us at [email protected].
Please include a detailed description of your question in order to expedite your
request. If you would like to decline this interview, please call us at (718)
935-4060.

We look forward meeting you!

Does anyone know anything about this? Do you think I should go or is it going to be a waste of time? Not sure if there are really any jobs out there. Thanks for your help!!

Re: I got this email today from the NYCDOE today

do I have stories!!! r u kidding....

here's the latest....

My first day back after my stepfather passed, I go into the main office to put a thank you card in her mailbox ( to thank the staff).

I see her by the sign in book and said good morning and started to walk out. You just don't initiate conversation with her, cause she is nuts.

As I was leaving the office she calls me back in. I go in and she says in a soft condescending voice. ' I think I am owed a Thank you, I think I am entitled to one.' My blood starts to boil and I say rather calmly. ' I just put one in your box. ' She replies...' No, I think you should've come and pulled me aside to thank me personally. After all, I did post the information ( the wake and funeral info, she posted this info on Friday at the end of the day, half the staff didn't even know), and I also sent a representative.' SHE didn't even show up ( which I am thrilled - she wasn't there).

So I responded, ' You know what, Ms. R, when you saw me you should've said you are sorry. This has been and extremely difficult time for my family and it isn't getting any easier.'

She kept going on and on about the thank you!!

I stopped her mid sentence (cause I was about to loose it) and I said I have to go. And I walked out.

I went to my room an cried for 45 minutes.

This is just the latest story...could you believe this shiiit

And yes my school is in Queens.

wow that story is crazy. . . .in my opinion what she did to post information is simply COMMON courtesy. . sure it's nice but she should do it bc it's the RIGHT thing to do - not to expect any thanks! ergh. . I mean I think thanking her was the right thing to do but to be so aggressive about it is weird!!!

I would def go for it. . I think anything that helps you get better jobs or a little mentoring can't hurt. . and even to put on a resume later that you were in the 'teacher select program' will look good bc no one else will have any idea what it is either!!
