I know I sound like an ungrateful loser but

at your wedding did you have ALOT of people bring ALOT of actual wrapped gifts? I mean these were not dainty little boxes, but huge shopping bags and punch bowl size boxes. I mean appreciate all the lovely gifts, but it took my family forever to load up those boxes in various cars and we had to stick around to dictate where everything should go.

Don't people know you are supposed to mail gifts?

I am being mean right???- Sorry.

We got gifts from some people who weren't from Long Island. Luckily, it wasen't my worry. My brother and his best friend were responsible for those kinda things. I'm sorry you had to deal with it! Dh and I just jumped in our limo and started our wedding night.

That didn't really happen to me (the few gifts I did get were small in shape), but my thought on that would be that the guests really didn't think about how the gifts would be transported after the wedding.
They were probably just trying to buy something from the registry or that they knew you and your DH would have wanted

You're not an ungrateful loser. I'm sure you appreciate all your gifts. This is one of the few places where you can vent about such things because we understand. The people who bring huge gifts to weddings are the same people who would bring a bouquet of flowers to a dinner party so the hostess can take time away from her guests to find a vase, unwrap them, cut them....

In most places in the US, wrapped gifts are the norm at a wedding. I was given about 5 gifts of various sizes. I didn't mind much really.
It was actually nice to get a few things to remember the wedding. And I got a great knife set which Scott would probably never has wanted me to spend the money on...so that was a plus.

I think gifts should be sent, but when you are not from around here you do what your custom is.

I'm going to be perfectly honest with you. I was REALLY surprised that my father's side of the family did not bring gifts to the wedding and gave cash. My wedding was the first 'American' wedding if you get my drift. In other states and other countries most people give gifts so they probably thought it was okay to do so.
On the other hand...there are always people who come to the wedding, eat your food, and don't give you squat...so at least you got gifts!

I would have just been happy for any kind a gift from them, you all know who I am talking about. Yes, those huge items should have been mailed.

We received about 6 wrapped gifts, all big....that wasnt so bad but at the end of the end the Chateau brought out like 20 boxes of cookies, cakes and pies, that was the real b*tch in loading the cars.....not for DH and I, we were already starting our honeymoon

we had a few, but luckily our hall took car of everything...we told them before (at our menu meeting) which car everything would go into...so they did all the loading for us...they even packed our bags fromt he bridal suite...since we were such a mess...

I had a few gifts too. However, CB took care of care of them, and then turned them over to my mother at the end of the night.

I guess I have a whole different outlook on the gift giving thing. IMO, people giving gifts at all is something that was grateful for (I'm not saying you're being ungrateful), but I think it's good when you look at the bigger picture - THEY GAVE GIFTS!!! If you were worried about family/friends bringing combersome gifts that needs their location to be orchestrated, then let your family and bridal party help out. To me, worrying about sending gifts via mail is so minute in the whole scheme of things.

Most people who attend weddings today have to adhere to so many rules and regulations that they are not even aware of. Most people are not wondering where or how to send a gift, they just show up. I don't know, but weddings seem to be getting more and more complicated with all the 'etiquette.' Don't get me wrong, etiquette is important, but how does one know when it just gets so overboard.

Sorry, I may get blasted as usual for my comment, but I'm just being honest.

Have a great day!

Why would anyone blast you Sandy, you are entitled to your opinion. Which is another side to this story, which must be heard as well.

I still say, mail that darn punch bowl

I felt the same way, First of all, im not really into vases and puch bowls and I was worried that I may receive them at my wedding and not know what to say or more importantly how to transport them home. I did however appreciate that if some one rather give a present then money that they sent it to the house and it was something useful. Igot some nice silverware as a wedding gift that came off my registry before my wedding, Ithought it was very nice. my $ .02

Considering what it costs to ship things these days, I don't blame people for not shipping things, although it's also proper to drop them off at the house prior to the wedding. I was actually a little disappointed that there were only a few packages to open.

I just sent my niece a birthday gift and the shipping cost more than the gift! Unfortunately, since she's all the way out in Arizona I don't have the option of dropping it off
