I love having dental work with no novacaine

On sunday my tooth starting hurting badly. It was so bad that the whole right side of my face was in pain, even my ear was bothering me and giving me a headache. Yesterday it just got even worse and I couldn't even take the pain, I had moments where my hands were shaking from the pain. I was in the city and called the dentist and said I had to come in ASAP. I knew it was bad bc my gums surrounding that tooth were very swollen. I got an infection from dental work I had not that long ago and not finishing. Since the dentist just had to release some of the swelling and something about not using novacaine on the infection or something like that i forgot the explanation, he was checking it out and i thought ok any minute he will numb me up but NO. He stuck this needle or some tool up in my gums and I felt it ALOT and he said puss was coming out sorry I know TMI and so gross. I am always calm at the dentist, I don't get nervous or ever say anything. But yesterday I was actually screaming AHHHHH during the procedure and saying 'OMG aren't you going to numb me up first' He even started scraping on my tooth and let me say that I couldnt even close my mouth fully yesterday bc if my tooth even lightly touched my other tooth the pain was excruciating. This hurt so bad and I actually had tears rolling down my face as it was happening. Luckily the only thing he had to do was release some of the puss and bring the swelling down. He said I have to take antibiotics for 5 days to clear up the infection and then come in to finish the job.

It was a coincidence but my mom also had to go to the dentist last night after work so I saw her there. When I asked her after 'does he not use novacaine' she somehow knew and said no not for what you did since all they were doing was releasing the swelling in my gums, and something about the infection. She said when I go back and get the work done then yes they will use it. I had to ask her bc it was her dentist I went to, I couldn't get through at my dentist office

and of course my great day doesnt end just there. My dad had come to pick up my mom and drive her, so I took the ride too. Now I was in the back seat and still in so much pain, the dentist said that after an hour or so when the swelling goes down I will feel better and yes it did after a while. But during the car ride i was still in alot of pain. My dad starts talking to me about certain things and saying things that were really pissing me off. I hate people getting involved in my business plus he just doesn't know how to talk. I said nicely at first to drop it but he wouldn't stop, and with the amount of pain i was in yesterday any little thing someone did i could've killed them lol. I got so mad at him and flipped out, while he was driving down queens blvd and we were at a light I just got so mad and got out of the car in the middle of queens blvd. Luckily DH was home so I asked him if he can pick me up bc i was in too much pain to walk home.

OMGi would have died!!! I cannot take any pain

oh god! I hate going to the dentist! You poor thing!!!! That must have not been fun at all!
I get nervous for a cleaning! I had my impacted wisdom teeth removed while I had novacain only and I had to go back for a second visit cus I was freaking out so much! Not the same as getting something done without novacain, but still painful. And has scarred em for life! I hope you are starting to feel better!

Ugh that's horrendous!! You poor thing And it sux that your Dad was putting you through it and you ha dto jump out of the car!! I hope you feel better soon

thank you so much ladies, in the end I guess it was worth it bc the pain did go away after about an hour. Plus I picked up the antibiotics last night and that helped with the pain, and i was given ibuprofen 800mg.

Gina-yeah i was never scared of the dentist but now I am a bit scarred too hahaha

thats what I said, I asked my mom if he normally did this bc if so then I am not going back lol. I had called my dentist and dh's dentist which i didnt really want to use bc last time he charged me $2k for each root canal and i had 2 done in one month, which s*cked since it went SOOO much over what i had with my dental plan. I was trying to make an appt ASAP i was in the city and about to leave so i told my mom to see if her dentist was available right away and he said to come in.

I once had my wisdom tooth pulles with no novicaine! soo painful!

OMG.. So sorry you had to feel that. I also had a bad expereince with the dentist. He didnt numb me enough when he was doing a filling, i told him that it hurt and he continued as iam saying ooouuuccch! That was 3 years ago... I have not gone back to the dentist since!! I am scared!!

wow i see i am not the only one, I wonder why sometimes they dont use it. I never had an experience before this one that they didn't so I was surprised. I guess maybe in certain situations they don't

wow you are definitely brave, i dont think I will allow another dentist to get near me without giving me novacaine first i dont mind the numb puffy feeling, i prefer that over pain haha

FH is a dentist. They're (usually) not sadists.

Because of the infection, the novacaine wouldn't have worked, so you would have felt the needle and all of the work he was doing.

ahhhh thank you so much, that explains it. My mom was saying that bc of the infection they couldn't use it, i thought maybe bc its not good to put novacaine into such an infected area. She didn't explain it fully by saying that I would've felt it all regardless. I mean i knew there was a reason and didnt think that the dentist would just do that for fun lol. My mom has been going to him for over 10 years and is more than happy with him. I was told though that bc of the infection they couldn't use the novacaine so i knew it was for that specific reason. Just s*cks for me lol but it's my fault, I should have gone to the dentist earlier.
