I'm so tired of living out of boxes!!! Vent LONG
We were living with a friend in his house, which he is converting into two separate apartments to rent out while he bought a new place. We agreed to take the upstairs apartment in an effort to save money (we get what DH calls 'mates rates') and friend found a couple of guys to rent the downstairs apartment to. We agreed to all of this way back in May. Construction had just started at that point and he had told the guys they could move in July 14. WEll, it was going okay at first--our bedroom was upstairs in the middle of all of the work, but it was fine, just a little dusty. Then about a month ago or so it got too much to live upstairs anymore, so we were moved downstairs, into the dining room!! We had to box up all of our stuff and move it downstairs. Then comes July 14--of course the apartment is no where near done!!! But friend has already promised these guys they could move in downstairs. Now what? Well, we've had to move with friend to his new place! We've had to pack up everything all over again. Now, we're two weeks into living in the new place and it's DH and I in one room with ALL of our stuff in boxes! It's getting to be such a mess, not to mention DH is in a terrible mood every morning because he can't find any of his stuff to wear to work. And then it's 'where did you put my...' etc, etc. The new place is a new build, so there's all sorts of things wrong with it that need to be worked out--AND we're currently the only people living in the building.
Now for the really awful part--I've been noticing that the toilet seat is up every night when I get home, which is strange, because I'm the last to leave for work in the morning, toilet paper is disappearing at record speed and it's been pretty messy in the bathroom and DH is not messy. WEll, we figured out that all of the workmen are using our bathroom every day because ours is the only one that is actually finished. Then, last night as we were all going to sleep, DH hears someone fiddling with keys in the lock!! He ran to the door and caught the night watchman running down the stairs! When DH questioned him, he said oh, he was just wanted to use the bathroom! I'm so horrified! He had to have known that we all live there now!!! I think they're using our apartment to hang around and watch TV and eat, as well as go to the bathroom!!!
I can't wait until this is all over! I'm told it should be another 2 to 3 weeks before our apartment is finished. I'm just not sure I can take this much longer!!!!

THanks for reading!!

you poor thing!
i would be all freaked out if i found out people were using my apartment without my knowledge....i mean, then they're working IN the apartment it's one thing...but just walking in when they feel like it - that's insane. You should get a new lock and teach them all a lesson!

Get a big dog...keep him in the bathroom
Seriously, Can you change the locks? I fear that since they made a habit of 'using' your place, it will be difficult for them to understand that it is yours now & they have no rights to it (and never really did).
Either way, here are some more hugs...

Oh I'd be pissed! Id probably say forget it and rent another place. It sounds like to much for me! We just bought a house and his brothers are building an apartment for his parents downstairs. They are in and out of the house and they just make a mess of everything. They are in the bathroom, the fridge and closets. They eat me out of house and home and treat me like the 'Gopher' girl. I hate it. So, I can be empathic with you. I'd start telling people they are not to come into your space, even if you have to leave notes on the doors. That's just unacceptable! Good Luck.

Re: I'm so tired of living out of boxes!!! Vent LONG
Thanks girls....I'm thinking of hiding the TP, but that might cause more of a mess in the long run
Plus DH's friend texted me today to say that the apartment building complex has fired the company that is providing security. The good thing is, we should be out of there in a few weeks and back into the house that's being rennovated and then it will finally be just the two of us!!! It's been so hard living with a friend all this time and then to have to live out of boxes, it's just stressing me out. You can never truly relax. Not to mention the fact that since December I've moved from my apartment in Manhattan to my parents house on LI, from LI to house in London, from upstairs in house to downstairs in house, from house to apartment and then in a couple of weeks we'll have to haul all of our boxes back to the house!!!!
Yeesh!!! Kathleen - having to live with construction workers for the past 2.5 months I can tell you, they eat so much (and English ones drink lots, and lots and lots of tea!!!! dirty mugs everywhere!!! 5lbs sugar gone in two days and forget about the milk!!!!!!) and they're not shy about it either, are they???

WOW....I cannot believe what you are going through right now....I am so sorry that you and your DH have to live like this.I would agree with Teaching the guys that use your bathroom a lesson though....Changing the locks on the door is a definite thing but the second thing I would do is maybe put Vaseline on the toilet seat one day or something like that.....
