I need a gift idea

A co-worker, who over the past 5 years has become a good friend to me, just told us that she is moving to Arizona as of November 1st.

There are a number of complicated reasons why she is going, and while it's not ideal, it is for the best.

I am terribly upset, but I wish her well, and would like to get her a small but thoughtful, possibly sentimental, going away gift. We are not close 'out of work' friends, but I'm going to have trouble living without her at work.

Considering our relationship, does anyone have any ideas?? I AM NOT crafty, so anything made by me would be a disaster.

Thanks

Re: I need a gift idea

Perhaps it should be something she can remember you and New York by!

A really nice picture frame for her favorite NY photo.
A fancy body care product you can only get in a NY spa.

Hmmm, I will add more if I can think of something else

Re: I need a gift idea

Is she a teacher also? Whatever her current job is, does she want to continue to do that in AZ?

Reason I ask is, 2 of my aunts are VERY into getting little thoughtful token gifts like a potholder, apron, something they use very OFTEN. So I would get her something she'd be in 'contact' with very often...
Maybe something for her desk at work ?
is there anything that you have in common at work, that would bring back memories? like a Jar full of m&ms that she can keep refilling?
something nostalgic that will really be around for a long time...

or home? something for her kitchen?

Im thinknig.....

Re: I need a gift idea

Good ideas ladies. Thanks!

Anna, she won't be teaching, or even working once she moves, but I like the idea of giving her something she sees often.

Re: I need a gift idea

What about sending a plant to her new home after she moves?

Re: I need a gift idea

I like the idea of giving her something that is a reminder of you...some common interest or inside joke that you share.

Aside from that, you could get her a really beautiful leather bound address book, and have all of her friends/fellow teachers at the school write their contact info in it, so that she can keep in touch once she's in AZ.

What about a gift certificate to Home Depot or Pier One? She'll probably want to buy some stuff for her new place when she gets there.

Hmmm...I don't know if you're gonna like any of these suggestions...I'm better at the 'crafty' stuff. I'll keep thinkin....
