I need a wife!

Original post by nov04LIbride

Recently I've realized I do most (if not all) of everything around the house. DH cooks the occasional meal, picks up the occasional take out dinner. So I was thinking how easy he has it and how much easier MY life would be if I had a wife doing my laundry, washing the floors, cleaning the bathroom, doing all the vacuuming...Anyone with me?

He doesn't even pick up after himself. He leaves the soda out inthe living room. His clothes are piled neatly folded next to his bed because hes too damn lazy to put his clothes away when I wash them.

You can do what I do about this problem....if he leaves something lying around throw it out!! That's what I do. He leaves his socks lying on the floor, in the garbage they go. I don't do it all the time but I do do it. He will eventually get the hint when I start doing it all the time and his favorite stuff is gone. I consider this a warning!

This is us exactly! It's the only thing we argue about! He doesn't care if it's messy and it drives me crazy- and then, when he does clean i just don't feel it's done very well!! Then he gets upset because he feels i criticize how he cleans- a vicious cycle! But i feel strongly that wiping down the sink is part of cleaning the bathroom- call me me crazy!

arggggh, my dh is like this too. The worst part is that he is a teacher so he gets home a lot earlier than I do. So, he has at least three hours to unwind before I even get home. Then, I get home and I have to cook, clean, laundry, all that stuff. No time to relax. He only helps if I give him specific chores to do and even then its as if I'm infringing on his personal time. Mine is because of his mother too. Has anyone had any luck with modifying this behavior? Sometimes I want to scream at the top of my lungs at him!!!

I also get the, 'But I don't know HOW to mop the floor...', as if all women get an instruction manual as to how to do household chores when we hit puberty!? I said just push the mop around the floor.... And yes, his mother did all his laundry and ironing and at my shower said I am so glad you will be taking over the ironing! I said uhhh I think I will take over TEACHING him to iron! Boy was I wrong, he has just spent the past 4 months very, very wrinkled!

I do not know what the fuss is about. If you like a clean house then you clean it. I do not expect my wife to clean up after me and our pets all of the time because that is just unrealistic. There needs to be a median with household duties. I do most of the cooking and cleaning because I enjoy it. As I write this I am in the middle of my Thursday night top to bottom cleaning of the house and I asked Peabody to go out for pizza so I can finish. She was more than happy to go and pay for it because she also likes a clean house. Peabody keeps everything in order and handles nearly all of the finances making sure the bills are out on time and that is where she excells. Those tasks are not very fun to me so I am very lucky that she does them. We complement each other!

Philby! Is this the first time posting since the wedding? That is great that you complement each other so well! I would be more than happy to pick up pizza if it meant coming home to a clean house! The post was more about the men who do not do their share of the household responsibilities.

I love how I am always concerned with cleaning etc.. when I get home from work and DH has no problem kicking back, letting the house be a mess.

I hear you too! When I first moved in, I was told 'I didn't marry a housekeeper'. He said he didn't expect his chores to change. Guess what! I am lucky that he still does hi own laundry, but everything else is up to me!

Last night, he got up from the couch and went into the kitchen stepping over the empty container of ice cream that was on the floor! I am trying to to do too much so that he doesn't get too comfortable, but I couldn't stand seeing the container on the floor any longer!

I do too. I do all the cleaning, the dishes, the laundry, not to mention I even take out the garbage . But, he does cook dinner though, so atleast he does pitch in alittle bit .

Lame excuse! Doesn't know where the mop is! Comon! Put the mop in his car, then he'll know exactly where it is!

Not to mention our house is the size of a postage stamp - where the he!! could it possibly be???!

My DH is the same way... since i started working again he doesnt know how to do anything... I came home the other night to a sink full of dishes and asked him why he didnt load the dish washer... He told me he didn't know if he should or not!!!!!! I know3 they arent gonna do them themselves!!!!!
