I need advice on where to go for our 1st yr anniversary!

Ok, I'm really at a loss now! We're planning to stay local, because we're house hunting and don't know what will happen by October.

I was originally thinking of going out to the North Fork and spending a long weekend there, but then didn't think there would be a whole lot to do.

I then wondered about going back to Montauk, since we love it there and try to go once every summer. But I've never been in the Fall - anyone know if there will be enough to do?

We're not looking for anything too crazy, but enough to keep us busy for a 3 day weekend. I know some areas out East close up on the off season, but assume that's more in the winter, rather than October.

Any suggestions/advice? Other recommendations of places close by?

I was just on BI earlier this month - I thought about it, but it's quite a hike by ferry from LI, and wondered how the waves would be in October

What about a little upstate? The leaves will be beautiful at that time.

A few years back we went to Cape May New Jersey. I havent beent thee in a while though.

I fyou really want to go out east, there should be some place that doesnt close up in Montauk.

Teri...what about Mohonk Mountain, by New Paltz...the foliage will be changing...should be nice...

We went out to Montauk in October once and we had a nice time. The weather was cool but we enjoyed walking around the shops and a ride out to the light house. It's quiet that time of year but not dead by any means.

DH and I were just talking this weekend about our 1st anniversary in October. Since we just bought a house - money is a little tighter and so is vacation time (we are getting work done in the house so we are taking most of our vacation then). DH said he has a great idea for a weekend trip but won't tell me. We are kind of holdingh off to see our money and vacation time until we get closer though.

What about the Warwick area - upstate NY? It doesn't take long to get to and in October - it should be beautiful. I went a couple years back and loved it. We stayed at a B&B and went apple picking, visited a vineyard, went to a pumpkin farm and they had some really nice restaurants for dinner. I would recommend it!

Possibly Newport, Martha's Vineyard,or the Hamptons?

hmmm - will have to think more about this. Upstate is a good idea, but I'm not too familiar with towns and all - where exactly is Mohonk? Any websites you can share?

LI's East end would definitely be easy - that's for sure But the foliage might be nice at that time.....

I checked out the site, which does look great, but I wonder how much we'd take advantage of the hiking etc. We're not the most outdoorsy type

The room rates seem high, but I guess when you factor in 3 meals per day and all activities included, it's not so bad.
