I need help with my sisters bridal shower

Throw me ideas. I've never thrown a shower before.
I want it to be different.

I had a recipe shower. Everyone had to bring a recipe.
You could to a 1st year of marriage shower - pick a month and get an appropriate item for that month.
I suppose March is kind of hard.

do you want mostly games? or themes too?

for my friends shower last month we did a bunch of different games, not sure how different they are though. But did a lingerie clothesline for her that went with a poem, each piece of lingerie was everyday of the week of their HM. Did the 'whats in your purse' game, they were given a sheet with a bunch of things on there for each thing they had on there there were certain points and the person with the most points won. Did toilet paper bride, had 1 person from each table as the bride and everyone had to make a wedding dress for her out of toilet paper, then the brides did a catwalk and the best one won. Also did a game to see who knows the couple best. You can also ask the bride questions to see how well she knows her FH and for each question she gets wrong you stick a big piece of gum in her mouth.

I always thought a belly dance type shower would be great. Have a belly dancer come and teach the women some moves, maybe do a moroccan themed type party.

Or you can make it a cocktail type party

I'll add this now-- my sister is incredibly shy.

An assortment of games is good but shower themes (centerpieces, favors) is really what I'm looking for

my friend likes daisies so they did a yellow theme with lots of daisies and daisy designs on the favor bags, menus and different stuff.

What does your sister like? do you think she would like a sex and the city type theme cocktail party. Or a garden type party? does she like cooking? ive seen some girls also do a teacup type party for their showers, they decorations and stuff were real nice

Re: I need help with my sisters bridal shower

Ohh this is fun! I just planned my sisters shower and had a blast...here are some ideas...some you may find corny..but I will share anyway...lol! Many people on LIW helped me with this project!

We had a cooking/baking theme -

For the cake: have a mini wedding cake made (I got a small 2 tier cake...cutest thing ever and I can fm you pictures!)

Or if you get a regular cake...use this saying 'From Ms. to Mrs. - Our Best Wishes)

Centerpieces - we made centerpieces that doubles as favors. We got a whole bunch of spatulas, ladles, whisks etc and put them in this cute tin urn things with a few fresh flowers! It was a hit! Also, it was very affordable because I bought in bulk at BB&B - I got 2 kits that had 20 things in each!

We also got custom cookies from customcookies.com. We had them make rolling pins and chef hats. Very cute and delic! (Got this idea from Gemmifer)

I made an ironing board person - I will have to post pics...its too hard to explain!

Game - Spice Game: 10 spices in little black velvet bags and people had to sniff and write down what they thought it was. It was alittle hard so we let them look at the spice and taste it if necessary

Game - Crossword puzzle (made online...very easy) with questions about the bride and groom (we customized the questions)

Game - We played this at my shower....Celebrity bride. Cut celeb heads out and past them on bride bodies. Be sure to cut their hair off too! Do about 20 and pass them around and see if everyone can tell who they are! People loved this one.

I also made a towel cake and we did recipe cards too. I DIY them and found cute clipart of a girl in a kitchen that looks like my sister! LOL! Will post pics in a minute!

Shower Cake - Cost = $115 from Tilda's Bakery in Rocky Point (very yummy too)

We made this little mini-me and her hat said 'Maria aka Betty Crocker' - she loves to bake and we call her Betty.

Towel Cake and cookie

for one shower i saw it done and each piece of gum was some different weird flavor so she got sick too. Luckily for mine, my MOH picked just 1 flavor of gum and something i liked so it wasnt bad. I think i only got 2 questions wrong so it wasnt bad either but i can see how it can get someone sick hahaha

I had like 10 wrong and I looked at my BF with a face like please spare me, i'm about to cry! and she brought me a tissue LOL.

Re: I need help with my sisters bridal shower

i had a similiar issue with my shower - i do NOT like being the center of attention and my girls were soooooooo wonderful with that!!!!

they threw me a movie themed party (SHOCKER!!!).

They sent (with the invites) - a questionairre about fave actresses/actors/movies/quotes, etc. The answers were put into a scrapbook for me.

Games: The big thing about the games for me was to not have to be the center of attention...so they did the following:

Famous movie couples (match the guy to the girl), match the movie to the couple, match the quotes to the movie.

They also did a few cutsey games: what's in the purse, by giving clues about what would be in my purse (items to be kept by person who guessed the most right).

And the final game was: using commercial jingles, what should we have in our pantry (and all items were to be kept by Dave & I).

The theme was hollywood - all kinds of party city movie theme stuff - it was WONDERFUL!!!!

The best way to cater to her shyness is to ask her FH to come. Dave came about halfway through and helped me open the gifts (he's wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more out there than me, personality wise, so he would joke about stuff and make me more comfortable). I have to give my best friend credit - she asked me, probably 30 times, are you okay and one of my guests, who knew about my anxiety issue, every 20 minutes or so would ask me if i wanted a break.

ETA: my spelling today is horrible, i'm sorry!

Re: I need help with my sisters bridal shower

I'm embarrassed to say that the only shower I've been to was my own (i'm the first of all my friends to get married). But, we played a fun game at mine:

My sister had asked DH a bunch of questions about his background and our relationship and about me that DH answered. The questions and answers were printed on slips of paper and all of the guests chose one out of a bowl, and then went around the room and asked me the questions. Every time I got one right (meaning I guessed the same answer that DH said), I got to open a present.

Re: I need help with my sisters bridal shower

Best game for shy people: TV WIFE!!! (Or Movie wife, if you prefer that theme)

I love this one, because great-aunt so and so can play along with crazy tattooed college buddies, but you don't single anyone out for attention.

Write TV wives names (the character, not the actress), on paper, attach them to people's backs. They have to figure out who they are by asking yes or no questions. Whomever goes through the most wives wins.
You can start whenever people arrive and go until you cut the cake, or the end of the shower, or until you start (or finish) playing other games. It gets people up, moving, and talking to each other, and there's rarely an awkward pause, but people can still mingle around the room while they play.

Re: I need help with my sisters bridal shower

we played a really fun game at my BMs shower that is not one that puts the bride in the center of attention!

lets say your sisters wedding date is 10/25... so right before she starts opening up her presents, one of the BMs would set a timer for 10 minutes & 25 seconds... whosever present the bride is opening when the timer goes off, they get to pick a prize... then you re-set the timer & it starts all over.

my friend's wedding date is 8/29 so it went off about 5 times... it was really fun & one that i have never seen before at a shower!! its also a good one if they dont like to be the center of attention!!

My sister (MOH) knows how much I love Bamboo plants so the CP's were a circle of little bamboo plants which was also the favor. I love it...one of my favorite parts of my shower.

ETA: All the games that we played were pretty embarrassing. Not so much to me...but some of my friends gave embarrassing answers!!!

They attempted to do the bubble gum game with me, but I refused. I hate chewing gum. The bride doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to I'm sorry, I'm no help to the threat __ mine didn't have any special theme other than it was my bridal shower, and I thought that was fine. It was just family at friends at a restaurant with good food and very simple low flower centerpieces. I opened the presents a desert and they did they 'how well does the bride and groom know each other' game minus the gum, and bridal bingo. Only lasted a few hours. I personally think these things don't need to get tooo complicated.

Re: I need help with my sisters bridal shower

My girls did a great favor for my shower.. i am not sure if anyone posted this but they bought umbrellas and put a little tag on it and it made some 'shower' shower reference...sorry i can't remember right now...but you can find umbrellas at the dollar store even. They were a huge hit and usable after!

For centerpieces they bought little potted plants. It was adorable easy and inexpensive. I was happy with how everything turned out.

If you sister is shy then dont' do too many games. I HATE showers/shower games so for mine (although i do love being center of attention) we just did bubblegum/question game and bridal bingo while i opened presents. It made the day go fast and the guests weren't forced to do silly things they didn't want. Also there was packets of activities at each seat so it occupied their time with little word scrambles and stuff...

I had a tea party theme. There are tons of tea houses to look into. What town do you want to have the shower in?
