I need steak help...

I need steak help...

I'm going to walk over to the butcher, what kind of steak should I get? I don't like anything too thick and I've never bought a steak before so i have no clue what I'm asking for. Help?

I usually go for Filet Mignon or New York Strip. They arent very thin but thinner steaks usually seem to be tough.

IMO the best cuts are

Filet mignon
Porterhouse
Shell
Ribeye

I dont like my steak thick so I always get it 3/4-1 inch :)

for John I get 1 1/2 inches

It also depends on how your going to cook it? Oven, or grill? I know it is snowing crazy but I have to ask b/c my DH will grill in any weather. As we speak he is outside making himself hamburgers for lunch.

Im not a huge steak gal myself...I like strip steak I think its long and thin..also if they have Kansas City steaks..it is a seasoning and it is delicious I highly recommend

Don't get anything too thin because they're almost always tough. You'll want something that is almost 1' thick. Filet Mignon is the best IMO.

If you are looking for a thinner cut I would probably go for a strip steak. We usually get rib eyes Dh loves them but they tend to be fattier and thicker.

I love filet- but we also do skirt steak- it needs to be trimmed a little more but its nice & then

Yeah that's probably your best bet. If you get filet-be prepared to pay about $25-30 total. Steak sounds good. Yum!

Thanks for all your help girls. They didn't have much of you're suggestions so I ended up getting a tri-tip. It looks pretty thick but maybe I can cut it or something

I really like flank steak but I marinate it for a few hours. What I do is I poke the meat with a fork and then make a marinade of garlic, low sodium soy sauce and let it sit for a few hours in the fridge.
