I want to strangle my husband

We just moved into our house in April, and it is still a work in progess. The upstairs spare bedroom is still filled with boxes and we now discovered I have some type of mold problem on my bathroom walls..it just appeared out of nowhere So what does my bright husband tell me last nite, his sister and 2 kids are coming FOR THE WEEKEND!!!

Where the H E L L is everyone supposed to sleep and now that my bathroom looks gross I don't want company. I really wanted to have people over AFTER the house was more in order. When I expressed this to him he was like too bad

I am SOOOO dreading this!!

Sorry I can imagine how you feel. His family did that to us the day after we moved in here. After all it is an apartment I should have been able to move from our apartment in Queens and unpack and be settled here in 1 day!

GRRRRRR.... I feel your pain! I wouldn't want anyone over yet either.

Get Tilex Mildew Remover and make Steve scrub the mold spots until they are gone (or a lot less noticeable). They will probably come back, but at least the bathroom will be presentable for guests.

And try not to strangle him... it'll be hard to be a single parent of 2 kids and a dog!

I feel your pain. Hubby told me last month, that his bro and his wife are coming, and they are supposed to be staying in a room where all our gifts and luggage and what not is. Where are we going to put all that stuff while they are here? Sometimes I don't think they think. I guess he will have to figure it out. I still have my bed to sleep in. It will work out, at least they are not going to be there forever.

Stuff like that never bothers them, and they can't figure out why it bothers us so much.


Mold - I had this in an apt I lived in. The bathroom did not have a fan to get the humidity and condensation from showering out of the bathroom. I would get the mold off by scrubbing it with soft scrub with bleach. It came back now and then, but it got if off the walls great.

Since we have been in the house that has the fan in the bathroom we don't get the mold at all.

I would tell him to clean the ****ing bathroom himself plain and simple! When his family comes over just apologize and explain the situation. They should understand. Hey it takes time to adjust and everyone has their share of things going wrong in the house.

We don't have a kitchen yet in our apartment because is being picking with picking out the cabinets (my mom is my landlord...LOL). I want to have people over and can't because we don't have a kitchen. We've had some friends come to see our wedding pictures and we couldn't even offer them a cup of coffe. We had some desserts but on plastic plates and drank some soda on plastic cups. Thats what we eat off of...LOL We could use our stove but we have to sink to clean the dishes...LOL it all takes time. We just need a little patience but we'll get there.

That would make sense, there is no fan in the bathroom at all and since it is Brandon's bathroom he has a habit of closing the door after he showers. We want to gut it and start over but don't have the $$$ to do so right now. I got so nervous when I saw this that I pulled a section of the paint off to see if it was in the sheetrock, it wasn't ..lol talk about an eyesore. I also think part of the problem is the previous homeowner painted over wall paper, the idiot

I jsut don't know where an addiotnal 3 people are going to sleep mand get this they are coming Friday till Monday

Men - they just dont think . My DH does the same thing. As a matter of fact we have one of his brothers coming with his wife and 2 teenagers this weekend. We have a pull out in the basement but excuse me where are the kids supposed to sleep? We dont have a bed in the guestroom. His words - dont worry about we have a sleeping bag and one of them can sleep on the couch in the den. Fine - Im not worrying about it.

Men don't get it. When we have company over DH starts by cleaning the bedroom and doesn't understand why I get all freaky and say how about the living room first?

Everything mentioned here will clean your bathroom.

A friend had a small clip fan in her bathroom to circulate the air which helped the mold/mildew problem of an unventilate bathroom. Maybe this would help you also?

EVERYONE understands how much work it is to move and will understand that you are not all settled in yet.

Michelle- I know you have to be careful with mold. It is good that you checked and it is not on the sheetrock.

I agree with everyone else, have hubby get up there with some softscrug and a sponge and it will come right off.

If you have Brandon keep the door cracked during the shower and leave it open after, it won't come back as quickly, but may still

(We can't have you climbing up there to clean it )

that is such a GUY thing to do.....
tell him he has A LOT of work to do this week, cleaning and getting ready because it is not your responsbility to get the house ready for them.
I hope he can clean and paint quick.

I used a mildew-resistant paint in my bathroom. Maybe that will help?

Oh Michelle ... I would be P I S S E D !!!!! Just make sure Steve helps you get ready for them. It'll be fine - so don't stress to much over this. You and baby don't need the added stress!

Awww, don't worry Michelle. People will understand that your house is still a work in progress. We moved in in February and there are still enough things that aren't done yet that until recently I would follow first time visitors around with disclaimers ('Don't mind the ugly wood floor, we haven't refinished it yet.') I gave up. People who know us well know we won't live like this forever, it just takes time. I'm sure it's the same with your family.

DH definitely should clean up though. He should have checked with you on this first.

Just kinda mention the things that 'her brother' needs to get working on around the house and hasnt gotten to ! THERE, the blame's off your shoulders!

I know how you feel, I hate having something upside down and having people over, but at the rate we're going, I still have people over, otherwise I'd be waiting forever to have company. I feel like projects take forever and life must go on.

Dont stress out, you just moved there. Im sure they'll understand that things are still being worked on.

Aw Sweety, I'm sorry Steve is being a thickheaded man!!!! Like I told you, men are clueless to these things and see no problem with inviting people over. Cira's right, you do not need to be stressing over this right now. Just go with the flow and I'm sure your SIL (being a woman) will totally understand that your house is still being worked on and that there isn't room right now. Just try to relax and enjoy the visit!!

AND LET STEVE CLEAN THE BATHROOM!!!!!!

We have all our crap in the basement and have to clean it out...my husband always gives guest a tour of the whole house including my disgusting basement. I get so angry!
