A friend of Luke's is getting married next month. I was invited to her shower but Im not going - but I am sending a gift.
She has several registries but virtually nothing that is something within my price range (about 75 bucks) or something I think makes a good gift alone.
I tend to like to do 'theme' gifts. Since none of her registry items work, I was thinking of doing a Honeymoon Survival Kit - which would include things like sunglass, suntan lotion, flip flops, a travel book about her destination, and other stuff that she and her hubby could use on their trip inside a beach bag.
Question - what would prefer?
a) Gift from registry
b) Honeymoon Survival Kit

In case anyone was wondering, I went against my preference in favor of the safe route and got her some vacuum thing off her registry. I hope she likes it.

At least you know that its something she definately wants because it was on her registry list. We got a couple of things that were NOT on our registry or from the stores we registered at. They were things we had no use for and basically are collecting dust.I honestly think they were re-gifted because both of these people who gave the gifts had gotten recently married.

sorry stef- you sound like you CAVED in and got her the vaccum-thingy. DOnt be sad- its prob exactly what she wanted cuz she registered for it. I would have suggested the GC too but I can understand how u want her to OPEN something esp since you are not attending the party.
I recieved some off registry items that people thought I could use... I am wondering if we all were ever going to have that GARAGE sale ,,so we can swap/trade all those WELL MEANING gifts??
if so, I have about 4 diff crystal pict frames, 4-5 crystal candy dishes, and a brand new mickey/minne centerpiece that I am looking to move!

I definitely caved :D
I dont really 'get' gifts like crystal and minnie/mickey stuff unless you are 1000% sure thats what the recipitent wants. And 99% of the time, the gifts that come unwelcome like that are regifts.
I just dont like registries in general. I think they are very useful since so many people are very lazy and would just regift their old crap or give an awful gift if you didnt spell it out for them. But IMO, a good gift should take some time and effort in trying to make the recipent happy by surprise as opposed to just buying off a wish list. But oh well.
