If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing..

Original post by PeteysBride

What piece of advice would you give yourself, based on your viewpoints now as a mature woman?

Mine would be to tell the young college me to fawk those guys who ran me off campus cause their dady's had money and were alumni and take it STRAIGHT to the cops and demand something be done about it, and to keep a paper trail and be the Nancy drew I am today. That way they'd have been arrested, Id have finished school and wouldn't be where i am today. Don't run from ANYONE is what i'd tell myself, especially when you have nothing to be ashamed of.

I'd also tell myself that 'this too will pass' meaning, just take a breath because its all bull crap and you learn to deal and things turn out ok in the end.

I wish i could tell my young self to not worry so much about what other people think, that everything will turn out just fine. I don't think I would change too much else as I think it helped shape who I am today (even dating losers and getting screwed over by friends)

This is mine, now I could give the rats asss what anyone thinks

I'd definetly tell myself to NOT be a doormat! Sure i was always 'the sweetheart' , but for the longest time i always 'felt bad' saying something, or was 'afraid they'll be mad at me', or 'i dont wanna 'cause a fight'....I've finally come to realize that that's all pointless and that communicating is SO important in ANY relationship...be it marraige, a friendship, and especially family...and anyone who's not willing to do so & respect your opinions ain't worth it anyway! I'd always hold things in and let people pretty much say whatever they wanted, do whatever they wanted & walk all over me. I just always 'felt guilty' for way to long. And i've finally discovered that talking about things is a HEALTHY THING!!! so yay for growing up Atleast the lesson was learned and i'll never be that way again

I'd tell my younger self not to be in a rush to grow up & to do things and spend time with people who really matter most. Looking back, I realize that there were certain family get togethers that I though I was too cool to go too & would prefer to hang out with friends who I am no longer friends with & it just makes me sad to know that I missed out on time with family members who have since passed.

and I guess to focus more time on schoolwork because I barely remember anything that I learned in HS.

I'd tell myself to slow down, enjoy life and don't try to grow up so fast. I'd make myself ride out situations that scared me instead of running from them. And I'd tell myself that being alone isn't really all that scary. I spent so much of my high school and college days with a guy thatw asn't right for me because I was afraid to be alone. And the whole time I knew I'd be with Dh in the long run. Now look, we're together and rather than wasting those years, I could have enjoyed them. And I would tell myself that my Daddy gave up a lot to raise me and my sister and one day I'll realize it and appreciate it, so I should do it now, instead of then because he deserves it. Having not really appreciated this until my 20s makes me feel awful now.

1) Be strong & don't worry about the future so much. I wasted a lot of time worrying, espeically when I got pregnant with my daughter (I was 17). I wish I knew then that even though it hasn't been easy, it's all working out. Whenever I worry now, I try so hard to remind myself of how well the last three years have managed to work themselves out.

2) Ignore the negativity. You have no idea how many people had the balls to tell me that I ruined my life by getting pregnant & that I would never go to college. Well, I am half way to my associates & I have a 4.0, and I am happily married.

2) You're going to marry ADAM! Stop wasting time with those other jerks, and start looking at your best friend.

I can relate to everything you just wrote!! When I was younger I always depended on a guy for validation, I was always so scared to be ALONE! I also took my wonderful parents forgranted and never let them know how much they meant!!

I think as we get older and 'become' our parents, its easier to see them as people; ones who make mistakes of course, but they try the best they can to make us happy and rasie us right. I regret so many things that happened between my parents and I when I was younger and Im sure my kids will make me go gray before I am 40 lmao, but thats life. You live and you learn and then you come full circle.

I would tell my younger self to be more independent. To not be afraid to try things on my own, without my friends. I'd also tell myself not to judge myself on the opinions (or percieved opinions) of others. Convincing myself that I was fat and ugly (when I wasnt) lead to me gaining a lot of weight and self esteem issues.

I would tell my younger self two things:

1) Always listen to your inner voice-it's always right. Don't listen to what other people tell you to do. You'll regret it big time.

2) Stay in school-no matter what!!

I would tell myself 2 things:

1. Save money from every paycheck. I spent all my money on bags, shoes and going out during my early 20's.

2. Your GPA in college really doesn't matter when getting a job after school. In my field, which is in the garment district..they really only look at if you graduated...not how well you did...lol.

Re: If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing..

i know i already posted a big long answer...but i've been thinking about this thread. and i'd have to a say, I'd also tell myself that I'm beautiful just the way i am. In the industry that I've always dreamed of being in, i always wanted bigger boobs, a thinner frame, nicer hair blah blah blah...so much so that i fell into an eating disorder my senior year of highschool. These past few years, I've finally come to realize that i'm perfect just the way i am...imperfections and all. God made me just the way he wanted me to be...so why argue with that?? besides...veryone in my life who really matters loves me just the way i am. Love yourself ladies! we're all beautiful & unique in our own special ways! And hell..everyone knows confidence is way sexier than silicone
