If someone gets engaged and is having an Eparty that you really don't want to go do you feel less ' obligated' to go since you didn't have one?

Re: If you didn't have an engagement party..
Not necessarily- in our case, we had a short engagement and were a little older, so there was not a lot that we needed. My brother and his wife had one, but the way I saw it, they were a lot younger and had a two year engagement. Also, they went from their parents' homes to their home and had nothing in terms of things for the house.
Their engagement party was also very small- immediate family and good friends only. I might feel differently if it was a big splashy thing- I know someone having an e-party that will be bigger than my wedding!

Thats actually what I was asking about!! The Eparty I have in mind is at Russos on the bay and is bigger then my wedding!!!
We are both young & had a 2 year engagement but I felt bad having an Eparty b/c people are already giving a shower gift and a wedding gift.. its like when does it ever end?!?! lol Plus we paid for our own wedding. These people arent even doing that.

We didn't have an egagement party because I didn't think it would be appropriate because we announced our engagement and were married within a year. Had I had an longer engagement, I would have considered having an informal party.

no, depending on who it was I'd go. I didn't have an e-party, but if was somone that I know would have come if I did & came to my shower, bachelorette, etc, I would feel obligated to go.

Nope. I don't look at this stuff as tit for tat. I'm personally not a fan of engagement parties but it's not my place to impose that view on others. If I'm invited and can make it, I go.

I didnt have one but I still feel obligated to go. Its a once in a lifetime kind of thing and if someone is my friend, I want to be there to celebrate with her/him.

I always try and find a way out of going to an engagement party, I did not have a one.

Re: If you didn't have an engagement party..
Unless its a close friend, I skip the eparty. I didnt have one because 1) we had less than a year engagment and 2) (the bigger reason) I feel is a little out of control to ask people to come to your eparty-with a gift, then come to your shower- with a gift, then possibly a bachelorette party - no gift but lots of $$$, then come to your wedding-with a gift.
Its not a matter of I dont go because I didnt have one, its more that I cant afford to shell out a thousand dollars for every person I know who gets married.

Re: If you didn't have an engagement party..
I look at a party as an opportunity to see family and friends. If I can go, I attend, if I can't for some reason then I send a gift. I don't look at e-parties any different from any other celebratory event.
