I'm devastated...

I'm devastated...

I haven't taken my wedding dress to be preserved yet and it's ruined...
It's been sitting upright in my bedroom at my parent's house since the wedding...and today I noticed that all the beading on the bodice has turned. It looks black in some spots now.
I'm heartbroken.
My mom keeps telling me that preserving it wouldn't have made a difference because they can't preserve beading, only the fabric gets preserved..
I don't know what to do with it now. I feel like this is all my fault...
My friend thinks I should call Platinum for Priscilla and complain... what difference will it make? I'm not sure, I'm just very sad today...
Thanks for letting me vent..

I haven't preserved mine either yet.. Holy shiit it's been a year..

I am so sorry this happened to you. I would definitely call & complain though. Maybe they'd be willing to replace the beading or something. That shouldn't have happened

Aw..... I bet the beading can be replaced. If you REALLY want to keep the dress, have the store call the designer & send out more beads & have them rework it & preserve it.

I didn't know beads could turn colors...?

I haven't preserved mine either.. it's been hanging on the outside of DH's closet for a YEAR!!!!

I am sorry that the beading turned on your dress.. can you call the manufacturer and see if at least they can replace it before you preserve it???

Ditto! Uh oh! I better get mine done. It doesn't have beading on it but I wonder if its turned yellowish or anything. I gotta pull it out of the bag.

I'm really sorry to hear this! Maybe you can bring it to a cleaner, show them and see if there is anything they can do!!

Re: I'm devastated...

that is very strange - what would have happened if you bought your dress really early for your wedding....would the beads be different color on the day of?!

I think its at least worth calling and seeing what they could do.

Perhaps there is a way to 'clean' them or something - like silver turns dark after awhile but all you need to do is rub a polishing cloth over it, maybe its something like this?

hey sweetie,
just got your FM

I haven't preserved my dress either and it's been hanging up in our closet in the orginal bag I got from Kleinfelds
I just went to look at it and it looks fine. No probs with the beading at all.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I would see what the designer would do for you. Try giving them a call. It can't hurt.
Good Luck!!!!!!

Re: I'm devastated...

The beads should not have turned colors. Can't really tell from the pics in your album but looks like they were seed beads that were opaque with a silver lining. Is that right? If so, they shouldn't have turned. Lined seeds don't oxidize (or at least aren't supposed to), and definitely not in less than a year's time. Definitely call your shop, but I would also write a letter to the manufacturer. You might get them replaced for free.

I'm really sorry that this happened! It is a beautiful dress.

Re: I'm devastated...

First off I would like to say this

Second I would like also to tell you and Ladies about my experience with preservation.
I had mine done about a month ago. Something happened where I had to get into to gown this wknd ( long story ) What I learned is after it is dry cleaned the dress does not fair well.
My guess is they think that you will not ever notice the stitching that will come undone and or that the dress will shrink or your beads and or intricate parts of the dress will melt
This is what happened to me
I went and asked around and as it turns out spot cleaning it really the best way to care for your dress and that although they say preserving the dress will help keep it somewhat in tact there will always be some issue with the dress after the process it never looks like the day you wore it Granted most Brides don't get back into it so you usually would not know, esp when it is boxed up after you pick it up. They advise you not to open the box b/c it is air tight.. blah blah
blah
Just know Ladies it is not the worst if you have not preserved the gown yet and if you can get away with spot cleaning DO IT .. don't do the whole dress it is not worth the damage.

Good Luck whatever you choose and be sure to ask ahead of time about your dress and how they think it might fair before you have it cleaned.
