My son has to go through a very painful procedure at the end of next month on his teeth. He has a baby tooth that needs to get pulled and they need to put a bracet/chain on the adult tooth and pull it down little by little. This can take up to a year, normally 3 months but, his regular dentist never told me about this
When they first go in it might not work and 6 weeks later they will have to try again. If the chain breaks at anytime they go back in over and over again. Mind you they have to peel back the roof of his mouth
They want a certain catscan done on him....$300, insurance doenst cover it. The whole thing with dental insurance will cost $800 and if they have to go in over and over again it $300 each time!!!
So mind you I have to think of what my son will be going through on top off ALL the money they want from me and it all has to be paid up front, no payment plans. He tells me they take CC..... ya but, are you going to pay for it??? No!!! DH is out of work and I am the only one that is supporting the 3 of us and I dont make much, you'd all laugh at what I make that's how bad it is. I don't even get child support from his dead beat sperm donor!!! I have been using the wedding money to pay DH's bills and now pretty much all of my tax money will be for my son's procedure and we have nothing to fall back on incase DH doesn't find something soon.
Im sorry to vent but, need to get it allout.

Re: I'm in tears over here
ugh!! im soo sorry! i hate the dentist!! i was forever at the dentist as a kid, i had a pallet expander, braces, night brace, retainers! ugh!
can you get a second opition? maybe someone else had an easier procedure, and might save you some money!
i understand the money issue, but i gotta say what my mom says to me all the time when i have break downs about not having money and ill never have money wont be able to afford our house and if we do we wont have money to eat, then i wont be able to have, kids...etc...everything you do costs alot of money and there is now way around things...but in the end you will find a way!!! and it will work out.
i will pray that DH will find a job soon, and hopefully your son will not have to endure a lot of pain thru this!! Things may seem bad now, but they will get better!! keep your head up!
ugh i hate the dentist!!

Re: I'm in tears over here
im so sorry u guys r going through all of this..
when it rains it pours...unless u realllllly like this dentist..maybe go to another one where u guys can pay off a little at a time...to ask for it all upfront is kinda bs..esp if there is no guarentee
i know things seem bad now..but u just gotta keep telling ur self it will all turn around..and it will soon..sometimes it just takes a bit longer than we want
you are a astrong woman..if u were not u would not be doing what ur doing right now...dont forget that!!!!
and if ur ever feeling really down..think of how great your son's smile will be when you are at his wedding
if there is anything i can do to help..please let me know

Christine...I wish I had some sort of advice...just hang in there and stay strong...I definitely think seeing a different dentist might be a good plan...simply becsue maybe they have payment plans at other offices? Do you get dental at your job? What about the flex benefit plan?

I hope everything works out. It is so frustrating when medical expenses are not covered.

Re: I'm in tears over here
They did same exact procedure to me at age 14, 2 days before high school. The oral surgery they put me to sleep and I woke a little sore but not bad at all, i promise. It took about 1 year for the tooth to come in and then another 2 years for them to straighten it and place it right. i promise you it was not bad at all i was never in pain , regular discomfort that comes with braces but no pain at all. I actually enjoyed my tooth in the top of my mouth it was a little show and tell i enjoyed hee hee i was a tom boy.
The tooth has never been straighteven after the years of braces just for that one damn tooth when i look back I wish my dad extracted the tooth and then get an implant when I was 18 which is just as expensive but at least I would have straight teeth. Just make sure they dont take his braces off too soon like they did to me and wear your retainer every night after they come off.
please fm me if you want , sorry

Do you remeber if they had to go back in cause the chain broke? He just got his braces on so it should all work out time wise.

Re: I'm in tears over here
If it makes u feel any better, I work for an orthodontist and I see this all the time. It's called an exposure. Of all the kids that I have seen have this done, there have been no complications. I feel like maybe they have to tell you of all possibilities to cover themselves, but I have never seen any problems. Everyone is different in how long it takes for their own teeth to grow in. Don't stress, it really isn't as bad as they make it seem. When you go to see your ortho every 2 or 3 weeks to have the tooth pulled each time, just give him some aspirin a half hour before his appt so it takes the edge off. Hope this helps at all, if you have any questions feel free to FM me.
As for the money situation, I'm sorry to hear about that. That really really ***** that they don't have a payment plan!! You should switch to my office we def do payment plans!! Anyway, evcerything will work out fine. I know it's easier said than done, but what doesn't kill ya, makes you stronger!! Cheer up!!

Re: I'm in tears over here
I am so sorry you are going through this. It sounds awful for your son & then on top of that you have to worry about the money? No fun. I'll pray that it works the first time so that they don't have to keep going in over and over again, causing pain for your son. If you do use a credit card, try to open up a no interest credit card and pay off as much as you can monthly. I know it *****, but at least you have that option if you don't have the money up front. I can't believe they don't have a payment plan! I hate the dentist...they really are SO expensive...and PAINFUL!!!!

Re: I'm in tears over here
i'm sorry you're dealing with all!! worrying about your son and money to boot!! that's rough! maybe see if there's another dentist that offers a payment plan, also my mom had A LOT of dental work down and her dentist offered a card called 'CareCredit' and it was interest free for a certain number of months and allowed her to get what she needed to be done, done without paying it all up front! Good luck!!! i hope it all works out!!!
