I read something on LinkedIn today that got me thinking. There are many companies that offer incentives to reach goals - like 2 week vacations for 2 people, cash and other expensive prizes. Does your company do something like this? (And yes, bonuses count!) Will they stop it because of the economy? Do you feel like you should try just as hard when you have nothing really to work for now?

Re: Incentive trips from your job
i get monthly bonuses if the numbers go up so no bonus if numbers go down and the system resets for the next month and the potential to go up again and thus get a bonus again....
does that make sense???

Apparently the PTB do not understand employee morale.

Re: Incentive trips from your job
My old company used to have a 'mini club' & 'compass club' vacations for the top sales people. Mini club is more of like tropical island vacations for 4 days. Whereas Compass Club trips are to places like Africa, Mediterranean Cruises, etc....
They still do this!

Re: Incentive trips from your job
at my old job, the financial advisors would all have a year long competition to make the 'President's Club'. you got stock options, as well as a trip. they would alternate the trip each year from the bahamas which would be for 2 people, and to disney, which would be for the winner, their spouse, and all of their kids. the top 10 advisors one this trip. with this economy, i'm not sure if they're still doing that. i know some firms that had an incentive trip, are now giving out visa gift cards.
at my job now, my dept gets yearly bonuses, but that's not always guaranteed. we were very lucky to get one last year, but no raise.

Yeah, that's what I mean. These people worked really hard because they want to win that trip. I'd take a giftcard, but would I work as hard? Maybe not.

Oh absolutely! I have friends at my old company and they still had their expensive holiday party even though they laid off about 25 people.

Ugh I don't even want to think about it LOL! They could have saved so many jobs if they just cut back on some of the perks.. i.e. helicopter, private driver/bodyguards, homes, 20K a month apartments... etc....
