This topic can be a touchy one with some people, yes, but to be angry at what you didn't 'make' at your wedding just seems really ungrateful and icky to me. Regardless of how much you spent on the day.

I gotta be honest. I had one couple that REALLY made me mad. We paid for our own wedding. The woman is my Grandma's cousin. They decided to bring their uninvited, adult son to our wedding. The father approached my mom as soon as she entered the door of the cocktail hour and stated, 'I just figured I'd tell you, before someone else did and you got your nose out of joint, our son is here. We invited him to come since he was working nearby and already wearing a tuxedo.'

And, they gave us $65.

Would more money have made it 'better'...well, yes. I would still be angry with how they treated my mother, but at least it wouldn't be a DOUBLE zinger (rude AND cheap).

Oh, and this couple has A LOT of money. A LOT.

We have very generous families and friends...the gifts from our guests equalled what we spent on the hall and our flowers.

Our wedding was paid for in full - by us - with money to spare - before our wedding day (this includes our HM). The gifts were just that - gifts...and we were very grateful for everyone's generosity.

What is wrong with some people!

Well, I have to say, this situation does seem a bit different than a more general complaint about how much money was made or not made. I agree with you on this one...

and yes, it is interesting to see the difference of what is given between those who HAVE money and those who don't! Really fascinating...

We did have 2 couples give us $50 who were from out of state so they have an excuse.

My two cousins however, one of whom brought a guest didn't even give me a card!

The gifts we received equalled about half of what we paid for the wedding w/o the honeymoon. We paid for the wedding ourselves with money we had so this was a nice surprise to see how generous our friends and families were.

we broke even, but only because both sets of parents gave us nice gifts, otherwise we would have been out about 1/3 of the cost.

We got back just about everything except 2K. This is why I insisted on having a 'small' wedding. We were on our own with paying for our wedding. I just couldn't see us being in debt over a large wedding. So we did very well and I'm very happy.

hey, I'm proud of the 32 people who received more money than they spent! I thought that was impossible!

We got enough back to cover the hall and flowers. Pretty good considering what that cost!!!!

There are a lot of outstanding cards and gifts from people that sent them to our home- at least this is what we think since they are mostly DH close family like his sisters(who would never not give us a gift) and a couple of my friends from OTT who said they were shipping my gifts so they didn't have to carry them from CA. According to DH there were a lot of boxes waiting at home that he did not open. So that is fun to come home to tomorrown.

Even without the missing gifts, people were much more generous than I ever expected. There was only one gift that gave us $50 a couple and they are from FL so I understood- they travelled here by car after their plane was cancelled just to be there and she lent me her veil which was huge! I really didnt' even want them to give me a gift after all that! Some of my friends who I know really don't have the money gave us hundreds of dollars- I felt so bad- they really didn't have to do that. So even if we are missing a few gifts in the end- I could care less- everyone that was there that day made it special in their own way.

Oh, to answer the question- sorry about it so long- we ended up more than covering the cost of the wedding due the generosity of his mom- she gave us the same amount as MY parents. But we also had a very budget wedding and I made everything to save money so I guess that is why. My brother's wife was kind of bummed since she said they didn't do as well- that was only because they spent 60000 on the wedding! What do you expect!

We got back a little more than half of the reception costs. All in all, it was a little more than we thought we would get, but less than we dreamed we would get.

We got back what we spent on the reception.
