Inspired by a post on the 05 board... How did you ' make out' on your wedding? ( money wise)

I know it is a personal queston so I am adding a poll. Just wondering what the 'Average' is

We received gifts that were enough to cover the reception and band.

OH, and I must add that about 40% of our gifts were from people who did NOT attend our wedding!

we got back more then half...but not enough to cover the costs of the wedding

We didnt get back anywhere near what the wedding cost. I never expected to either.

I would say we got back about 1/3 of what we spent. But we chose to have a very expensive wedding, so we never expected to make more than we did.

we didn't get back anywhere near what we spent but we really didn't expect to anyway...

We got back about 1/6th of the total budget...almost 1/2 of the hall cost. A LOT better than we expected, believe it or not!

We got back enough to cover the cost of half of the wedding.

We paid 100% of the wedding and we made about $20k over what our entire wedding cost (not including honeymoon)

I put down lost but we went into it not expecting to make money or even come close to breaking even. We paid for our wedding ourselves so really there was no way for us to make money.

We did much better then we thought we would - compared to what DH spent on his share of the wedding (my dad and his parents helped), we got back a lot - and more then enough to pay for our honeymoon to Italy in October.

made 3k more then the cost of the hall.
so not so bad. parents paid for the hall.. so then dh and i definetly made $ off the half we paid for

We made back about 75% of the wedding + honeymoon costs

My parents paid for the wedding, but totaling all they paid, we still would have made money on the wedding, if we had paid for it, but that was thanks to a VERY generous check from my FIL!!!!

ACTUALLY- I WAS INSULTED BY SOME OF THE GIFTS. WE HAD A FRIDAY NIGHT WEDDING IN JUNE, AND SOME OF OUT GUESTS GAVE US 50.00/COUPLE! ONE PERSON EVEN GAVE US 30.00. OUR TOTAL RECEPTION COST 22,500. AND WE GOT 11,000 BACK. AND ITS ONLY B/C SOME PEOPLE WERE VERY GERNEROUS. OVERALL, IT WAS VERY DISSAPPOINTING.

wow - but thats not what getting married is really about though...right?

We 'got back' about half the cost of the hall, but my parents paid for the wedding, so we were just feeling very blessed to have a nice chunk of change to start our lives with.

I offered to give back alot of the $$ we made in gifts to them, but they wouldn't have it.

FH's parents gave us a very generous gift as well that exceeded the amount received by all of our guests.

Maybe if I had paid for the wedding it would be different, but I was not, at any point 'dissapointed' in what anyone gave - even the cards that held $50.

This topic can be a touchy one with some people, yes, but to be angry at what you didn't 'make' at your wedding just seems really ungrateful and icky to me. Regardless of how much you spent on the day.
