instead of a newlywed chop...

I was thinking of taking the long a$$ mane of hair and getting waves ....Ive always loved my wavy hair but it just looks messy

anyone know what I should ask for when I go to the salon?

Its not the same as a Perm is it?

Looks more like a body wave as opposed to a perm.

ok thats what i wanted to do, but i asked for a body wave and it looks like a perm! be very careful! it's just a perm with bigger rods. make sure your stylists is clear on what you want!!!! i regret getting a body wave and miss my straight hair, it was so much easier to deal with!!

Jen, I don't want to put a damper on your hair idea. Buuuutttt...I wanted a similar look to the one you posted, and went to a salon to get a body wave. They used the largest rods- which really weren't all that large, and it did NOT go well. Think Don King meets Chia Pet. And in spite of my best efforts to get it to relax (lots of washing and conditioning), I had to wait a year for it to grow out. Before it calmed down, I had to beat it into submission on a daily basis.

Ask for a curling iron with wavy plates.

Seriously. Rebecca R. (can't spell her last name) does not have naturally wavy or permed hair. Her hair is straight. That look is achieved with rollers, a curling iron, and a really good stylist. My advice is don't get a perm to try and get this look, it probably won't happen and you'll damage your hair in the process.

Good luck!

Someone in my office did something similar. She said she had her hair 'texturized'. Not the same as a perm or body wave, but I don't know how it differs. Love the look though!
