insurance card question...

so dh and i filled out all the correct paperwork for me to get on his insurance

i have been waiting forever to get my cards in the mail...so the other day dh gets 4 new cards in the mail..all with his name on them..i assumed mine were still coming

so a friend told me yesterday that 2 of those cards are mine..could that be?i just assumed my name would be on the card?

No, your name should be on the card, despite who the policyholder is.

Your name should be on 2 of the cards in order for you to use the cards. I would call the insurance company, there should be a 1-800 # on them, they probably made a mistake (something they tend to do) and will send you cards with your name on them

Gina...my insurance is really weird too. I put DH on mine and when I got the cards they came in with only my name on the cards. I called the insurance company and that's just how they do it. DH is covered but only the policy holders name is on all cards. You should just call the insurance company to make sure you're covered.....but it's probably all good.

we got new cards with both of our names on it. i am still waiting for the new card because i changed my last name

Same here. My card just has DH's name on it.

Call and inquire if the policy number has your name on it now if you want to be certain.

It may depend on who your health Insurance is with. I have HIP and my name is on the card with my DOB. But my dental coverage I have is under my husband's name, my name is not on the card.

What Health Insurance is it?

It depends on the insurance. We just switched our insurance and the new cards only have DH's name but the old insurance I had a card with my name....

So my guess is 2 of those cards are yours.

Call the insurance company to be sure, but it's probably ok. Every company is different. For us, DH is on my insurance. He got dental and insurance cards with his name, but his Rx card just has my name. He's used it w/o a problem. Either way, the insurance policy is in your name so it doesn't matter if his name is on the card or not. He just needs your policy number, which is on the card. You'll both have the same number since it's the same policy.

My doctor's office just implemented a policy that you must show your photo id along with you insurance card at every visit. So even if your insurance company only puts the policyholder on the card I would want to have something with my own name on it.

Depending on who your insurance carrier is, they may only print out the cards with the policy holder name on it but issue out cards for each person on the policy.

Well im on Dh's insurance & all cards have his name on it. U really only need the policy number they should have all of the info of who is covered at Ins co. It doesnt matter what name is on it. But since he is the employee & you are the co insured its normal that his name is on it.

It really depends on the insurance. DH is the policy holder and only his name is on the cards. We called & they said its how they do it. We have blue cross.

i think it all depends on the insurance company.

i think it can go both ways but most often the card has your name on it.

Yes! Originally when we got empire, the cards they sent me only said his name and the doctors and pharmacies accepted it without question. We just got sent a new one though which has both our names!
