and congrats to you as well mj for turning your life around. I so badly with my mother could, but at this point - she is FAR too set in her ways.

Thanks.

its sooo hard when people are older and feel like they don't have a problem. my dad was an alcoholic for most of my childhood---it took him losing his job, license, and his savings to realize that he had a problem. 17 years later, he's still sober. but man it was HARD for him to come to terms with his issues.

i know it seems hopeless sometimes with your mom---but miracles happen everyday---and maybe one day she might see the light. i know it seems impossible....but miracles can happen.

Re: Intervention

Unfortunately this is something that the person has to want. No matter who is begging them asking, pleading or crying. If they aren't doing it for themselves.. they are just gonna fall right back into it. I see 'newcomers' come in and out of the 'rooms', NA. all the time. For me, I relapse a few times in the beginning. I wasn't ready. But I will say this, after my first meeting, getting high never felt the same. They call it planting the seed. A lot of people talk about it. After they see that I -might- have a problem its always in the back of their head. Which is a good thing actually. But it is extremely hard.
After I got out of Rehab in Florida I went into half way house down there. I knew a few people there since a bunch of us all moved into half way houses right afterwards. (Del Ray Beach) And we went to meeting together and what not..They say 1 out of every 20 or so people will relapse. I didn't believe it because the new people i met down there really seemed to want it.. But sure enough.. one by one they all ended up relapsing. And the one guy I was really close with Andrew. He had a great awesome spirit, you would look at him and say wow he is really doing it this time.... He eventually moved back to Conn. and he OD. It is so so scary. This is a life long commitment and it takes so much work.. but it can be done. I've seen it, i'm living proof of it. For me the more and more I learned about the disease the more i didn't blame myself for everything I've done.. and was able to except the fact that it can get better.
