Intervention

Intervention

UGH I just started watching this show and its so hard for me. I cant believe these people allowed themselves to become this way and destroy their families in the process. Its insane to me that there are people like this. Im watching the episode with the stripper who is addicted to crystal meth and alcohol. She looks like a lunatic. She's laughing at her crying mother. I dont know why Im watching this. Its just infuriating me.

It is sickening. The girl didnt respond to treatment and went home. She's evil. Theyre threatening her with jail time. Its pathetic. She laughs at everything. She needs to go to a mental hospital not rehab.

OMG I just saw that earlier today and was BAWLING. That was the hardest one to watch so far.

yes these people act in unbelievable manners...but you have to remember this behavior is because they are addicts and they are on drugs/alcohol...when & if they receive the help they are like a totally different person sober and you can see that...nobody consciously chooses to become an addict...

Unfortuantly the show is based on real people, real lives and real addictions. although they may only show the extreme situations on tv, there are many people low class, middle and upper class that suffer from addiction. It may all seem selfish and that i do agree, but addication is a diease.

You may feel different about the show if there was a successful ending, if you saw an update on these people years later or if you have ever known someone who has suffered from addiction and on their road to recovery.

I agree it is hard to watch, but it is real life.

Thats what they said. But she doesnt want help. They thought her rock bottom would be putting her in jail. The judge offered her a two year treatment program or 90 days in jail and she chose jail. I think there are some people who just dont want help. I pray for that girl

Believe it or not---I used to BE like some of those people on that show. Its crazy to see what drugs can do to a person.....and if you ladies knew me about 7-8 yrs ago, you would NOT recognize the person I am today. When you are in the thick of it, you truly rationalize everything you do to get what you need to get high. They have no clue how crazy their behavior is, and unless they hit their own rock bottom, they never will.

Sometimes I watch the show, and think 'Wow, is this what I looked and acted like???' I do applaud the people of Intervention for showing addiction in a harsh & real light---maybe it can stop some people from taking that hit or snorting that line the first time. If it helps just one person, its totally worth it!!

her biggest concern is her next high...one day hopefully it will hit her..for some they never do and that is unfortunate....it's a hard thing to comprehend for people without addiction...or who haven't had someone close go through it

Very well said. I have watched this show for the past few years and it hurts to watch people in such pain. I have seen the episode you are talking about and remember being amazed at her actions, however, I know that deep down she may be a good person, the drugs and alcohol have just taken over her life and judgement and until she gets the help that she needs, she will not be able to function as a healthy/sober person would. She needs help but SHE needs to be the one to realize that or it just wont work- that's the part that breaks my heart.

I guess I just cant understand how someone STARTS doing drugs like that. Ive have gone through some CRAZY SH!T in my life but I never thought to turn to drugs and alcohol. I feel so angry at the addicted on the show but when I do see the episodes where the person does turn around, Im happy. Its just hard to understand how people allow themselves to get pulled into it

I have watched the show from time to time and it does make me sad watching but I think that it is a good thing that people see the bad side of drug & or alcohol abuse. I agree sometimes people need to hit rock bottom before they realize how much they are hurting themselves, their friends & their families.

I've never seen the show. I but i understand what everyone is saying.
I just celebrated my 3 year anniversary of being clean and sober on Sunday!
I was addicted to drugs and alcohol for years. I put my family through so much and they tried and tried to help me. I just wasn't ready yet.
But one day... July 20th 2005 I turned over my will and my life. I knew I needed help. And my family was there for me.
Since July 20th 2005, I have such an amazing relationship with my parents. (thats all I thought about walking down the aisle of the church when I was looking my Husband to be- I was histerical crying!! lol ) I kept thinking about what I accomplished and how happy I am and how I couldn't have done it without the help of my parents. I felt like i was saying goodbye to them and thanking them all over again... its kinda weird..
But with in 3 years. I celebrated my 21st birthday without drinking, I gained my trust back with my mom and dad. I met my husband..(whos a cop.. kinda funny when i really think about it), planned a whole wedding by myself, toasted on our wedding day to ginger ale, (i was so nervous JT was going to put champange in the glass and i would have to spit it out.. that was a reaccuring nightmare..-but i watched them pour the soda into my glass) we just bought a house together and we are talking about when we want to start a family!

I couldn't have done any of it without the help of Narcotics Anonymous. That is where you see how people can turn their lives around. We were people in the grip of addicition we did horrible horrible things to get high. And now, we help eachother stay clean. That program gave me hope that i can get better. And I have, but it is a continuing fight. I am an addict, I have a disease and that is sometihng I have to work on everyday. There is nothing- nothing that would make me relapse and go back to what i use to be. I have gained so much and I never want to loose it.

i have never seen the show as i live it with my mother....

I wanted to simply congratulate you kraus - what you have gone through is definitely worth saying something about!

That you have come out and seen the light at the end of the tunnel says a lot about you & what you are capable of.

Congratulations on 3 years!

its hard to see how it starts if you've never been down that road. i think the show wants to show you how bad it can GET -- before you pick up that joint, pill, needle...etc.

every person's reason to start is totally different. but i think a lot of times it becomes a slippery slope and you don't see how far you are sliding while you're in it. for me--i was hanging with friends--we were all young and doing our own thing in our very early 20's. have some drinks, smoke a little herb...no biggie. then we'd go clubbing and the party scene drugs are just soooooo prevalent. it starts with 'man if you take THIS thing---boy you are gonna feel GOOD and you can party all nite!' then it turns to 'if you thought THAT pill is awesome---man i'm telling you, snort this and you will be flying high as a kite!' so you figure...whats wrong with getting a little more?

you eventually start needing MORE of that to achieve the same high you had the first time, but you don't really see it. then something new is intro'd and friends say 'Dude--have you SMOKED this yet? omg you have NO IDEA!! and its CHEAPER than an 8 ball' cheap and a great high? Sure! Sign me up! By the time you get to that point....you are in it---and you can't remember how it started.

I was lucky.....I was able to see what I was becoming and say 'This HAS to stop'. I took myself out of the environment, packed up all my shiiit and moved. It was the only way for me. I was fortunate.....many of my friends were not.
