we've been together for 5+ years and i think he's gone to the doctor MAYBE 3 times... and thats only b/c he's had strep throat or some other illness that required an Rx
i would nag him ALL THE TIME to go and get a physical at the doctor... just to check his blood work and do an EKG and stuff... esp since heart related diseases and diabetes runs in his family. i got so fed up i started testing his cholesterol at home for my own peice of mind
in addition, after i quit smoking, i've been ON HIS CASE to quit.... i really sat him down and almost cried over the fact that i cant imagine loosing him to lung cancer since I KNOW he can quit b/c he has in the past
WELL after much nagging and fighting - he FINALLY went to the doctor and got a FULL physical!! and he is starting chantix for quitting smoking
just wanted to share with everyone incase someone else has a DH like mine... there IS hope!!! haha

My DH doesn't go to the doctor either. I think it is because they think that they can get over it themselves

i go to the gynocologist once a year and the dentist 2x a year but that is it

my DH doesn't go to the doctor either... but neither do I. He & I both just hate going so much, so we really only do if we're horribly ill. The dentist too. We only go if we're in pain. lol. We need to work on that.

Yes mine is the same way!!! I yell at him all the time! Finally he went yesterday, but thats because he has strep and an ear infection and he couldnt take the pain in his throat! Men want to think they can handle it. Mine BTW is such a wuss. He says yesterday to me ' Baby can you make me soup please, cause you make it the best'! LMAO! I said sure my love, i know how hard it is to open a can and microwave it! LOL. I dont mind though. I love taking care of him, and i do anything for him.
**Oh and that is wonderful that he is trying to quit!! Best of luck to him on a healthy start**

i am kind of the same way except for when it comes to the dermatologist (b/c i have no choice) and the gyno (again b/c i have no choice) - i dont have a PCP though i havent had a physical in years but my SIL is a doc so she writes me scripts so i get my bloodwork done and she checks it out for me.......

my DH NEVERRRRRRR goes to the doctor. I think he told me the other day he hasnt been to the doctor or had a physical in over 8yrs.
W T F i'm at the doctor every 3 mins and he can go over 8 yrs without getting checked for ANYTHING.
Mind you he gets sick on occasion but its nothing that cant be fixed with OTC meds. When i get sick its like I need hospitals, surgeries etc lol i dont get it!!

DH is actually pretty good about it. I'm the one that's bad. I'll be on my death bed and still refuse to go lol. I swear I can get better on my own I think I get it from my dad. He doesn't go either, but that's because he's over weight and has a heart condition and the doctor yells at him

My DH fights going to the doctor, too. He's been having this issue with his feet for like months now and it's getting worse! I FINALLY convinced him to make an appt w/ a podiatrist and he's going tomorrow - thank goodness!!!
Michelle, I also wanted to comment on the Chantix thing. My DH is on it and it does work. He just breaks down and ends up smoking again, and then he has to start w/ the Chantix all over again! He drives me nuts! He really needs to find a replacement for when he's angry or upset, b/c that seems to be when he breaks down and smokes. He has a gym membership - I told him he should go work it off in the gym rather than smoke! I have never smoked though, so I can't really understand how hard it is, etc. He's been promising me he'd quit since the day we met nearly 5 years ago! Anyway, I hope the Chantix works for your DH and that he sticks with it!!!

My DH has no insurance and has not been to a dr in the 7 years I have known him, except for the time he gopt a BLOOD CLOT in his arm and had to go to the hospital because he ignored the act that his arm was COLD and BLUE each morning for 5 days. He went to the dentist twice when his tooth was killing him ... other than that, nope.
Honestly, I think mine's got everyone else's beat!
And he smokes, drinks and doesn't exercise. I got myself a winner.

my DH loves going to the dr. if he just sneezes, he's ready to call the dr to check him out. he goes regularly to the ear, nose throat dr, dermatologist, optometrist and ophthamologist, and anything else he needs. me on the other hand, nope! i go to the gyn 2x a year, and to the dentist 2x a year, but that's it. i try to go for a physical every two years, and did go a year ago, so i'm getting a little better. but if i'm sick, i wait it out until i know it won't clear itself up.

being an x-smoker, i KNOW how hard it is to quit!! but i figured since IM not smoking and none of his friends really smoke anymore - it should be easier to quit this time!! i'm hoping the chantix works for him.... i think it will!

Mine is the opposite. He is a hypocondriac (sp?). I swear our doctor's office is on speed dial. He has gotten much better though since the dr's office is far.

Its not that mine refuses to go or anything, he just cant find the time. We finally have awesome insurance and he still doesnt go. Me on the other hand, Ive been to the doctor countless times since we got insurance

Congrats on getting him to understand that doctors are not just for women...lol! DH is such a baby....we just had to have a physical for life insurance, so I'm glad to know everything is okay. He doesn't even take cold medicine when sick! IMO - I think they should make you have blood tests prior to marriage again!

We are the opposite... DH goes to the doctor at the first sign of a sniffle... plus he is paranoid about heart problems since it runs on his dad's side of the family. Me? Other than the ob/gyn, I haven't been to the doctor in almost 4 years. I am so bad. I know I should get a physical but I just can't make myself go. I've also been meaning to get checked out by a dermatologist but I've put that off too. However, before DH and I start TTC (possibly next year) I will definitely suck it up and get a physical to make sure everything is good.

me too!!!
And lucky I did!! I just found out I have a stupid bacteria in my stomach and I have to take 8 pills a day for 14 days to get rid of it. I keep trying to show DH, if I HADNT gone I wouldnt have known why I have all these stomach problems.
Bonch, my DH doesnt take pills or medicine either. Only thing he will take is Excedrin for migraine. He gave me a hard time for taking Advil the other day. So what, Im a pill popper

Dh hates to go to the Dr. for anything. He's just stubborn...I really think it's a man thing. It frustrates me becasue most of the men on both sides of his family have died fairly young (late 50's/early 60's).

Yeah, he started taking the Chantix AGAIN and so we'll see if he keeps it up this time. I just get so frustrated b/c I feel like our house just reeks, even though hes ONLY allowed to smoke in the bsmt. Plus, I have asthma so it's not always easy for me to handle. I just pray that if he doesn't succeed in quitting now, he DOES whenever I become pregnant. I REALLY don't want a smoker in the house once we have kids.
