we've been together for 5+ years and i think he's gone to the doctor MAYBE 3 times... and thats only b/c he's had strep throat or some other illness that required an Rx
i would nag him ALL THE TIME to go and get a physical at the doctor... just to check his blood work and do an EKG and stuff... esp since heart related diseases and diabetes runs in his family. i got so fed up i started testing his cholesterol at home for my own peice of mind
in addition, after i quit smoking, i've been ON HIS CASE to quit.... i really sat him down and almost cried over the fact that i cant imagine loosing him to lung cancer since I KNOW he can quit b/c he has in the past
WELL after much nagging and fighting - he FINALLY went to the doctor and got a FULL physical!! and he is starting chantix for quitting smoking
just wanted to share with everyone incase someone else has a DH like mine... there IS hope!!! haha

coincidentally, DH has not gone since 2005 - when I made him go after his dad died suddenly of a heart attack. My birthday is friday and I told him what i REALLY want is for him to tell me the name place and time of the doctor he is going to for his checkup, since I've been nagging him to go since before the wedding. Oh, and I want him to get his ring sized so he wears it on the right finger.

Yeah, he started taking the Chantix AGAIN and so we'll see if he keeps it up this time. I just get so frustrated b/c I feel like our house just reeks, even though hes ONLY allowed to smoke in the bsmt. Plus, I have asthma so it's not always easy for me to handle. I just pray that if he doesn't succeed in quitting now, he DOES whenever I become pregnant. I REALLY don't want a smoker in the house once we have kids.

I TOTALLY relate with the smoking thing. I was in tears last week about it to him and he keeps saying he's going to 'try' this week but then it never happens. He went to the DR and got a Chantix prescription but he read up on it and there are apparently all these side effects that scared him off( like depression, etc). It's also really expensive! DH's insurance doesnt cover it so its close to $200.

OMG! at first, my DH was nervous about the side effects too! but he talked to his doctor again and she said the most popular side effects that ppl complain about are nightmares... so i told him that he can wake me up and hold my hand if he gets scared by a dream lol
