Is the Big Island in Hawaii worth it?

I went to the Big Island and LOVED it but I never left the resort. I loved it there soley because (and we went to this island) of the Four Seasons.

So I am planning my friend's honeymoon for her (don't ask - she is getting married in 4 weeks, planning her own wedding with a 6 month old infant and just collapsed from exhaustion and dehydration at the gym and had to be admitted to the ER!!!!) Yikes! So I am trying to help her out. She does not want to go to the Four Seasons so would it be better to have her go to Maui instead of the Big Island? Kauai is a definite. But she wants to do 2 islands.

I am thinking Kauai for 4 days, Maui for 4 days with a day pass to the Big Island to do the helicopter ride over the volcano? What else is there to do on the Big Island?

a lot of questions I know but I am under the gun here to get her booked somewhere! Anywhere! If I still can.....

Not much else to do on the Big Island. I was only there a quick 2 nights but that is why I only did 2 nights.

Unless she is really into going to the volcano national park, I'd skip it. I would have preferred to have spent more time on Kauai.

I disagree - I spent 4 days on the big island and I loved every minute of it - I wish I stayed longer.

We stayed at the Hapuna prince (loved it!) and did the volcanos, hikes to waterfalls, spent some time in Hilo - it was BY FAR my favorite Island. There is a lot to do there and the scenery is amazing.

We liked the big island but wouldnt go back. We went to the VOlcano park and hung around our hotel the rest of the time. i would rather go back to the other islands.

IMHO- Maui had the true essence of Hawaii. So Kauai & Maui for 4 and 4 should be a perfect trip.

I truly felt like I got the Hawaiin feel that I was looking for than I did on the other Islands-- and I've been to Maui, Kauai, Oahu, Lanai & the big island.

Like someone above posted, unless you are truly into the volcanoes, (or the Four Seasons) it could be skipped. Maui was alot prettier and had more to do IMO.

Ive read and heard a lot that Oahu was not worth it, so now I am looking into the Big Island. I want to see volcanoes, rather than a city.

We loved the Big Island. Stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa Beach and it was the most amazing hotel I have ever stayed at. I don't think I would do it over Maui though. We did Maui and the Big Island. We went to the volcano nat'l park, we went snorkeling, captain bean's dinner cruise, we had a great time.
